Life Sketch of Finance Minister Abul Maal Abdul Muhith

Abul Maal A Muhith, a renowned economist, diplomat, freedom fighter, and language veteran, was born in a respected Muslim family of Sylhet in 1934.

Mr. Muhith is the third child of Advocate Abu Ahmad Abdul Hafiz who was a great leader of Pakistan movement and the founder of the then Sylhet District Muslim League. His mother Syed Shahar Banu Chowdhury was also active in politics and social work.

Mr. Muhith was very brilliant throughout his student life. He secured first place in Intermediate examination in the province in 1951 from Sylhet MC College. He stood first class first in B.A. (Hons.) in English Literature in 1954 from Dhaka University and passed his M.A. with credit from the same university in 1955. During his service period, he studied in Oxford University in 1957-58 and received MPA degree from Harvard University in 1964.

After joining Pakistan Civil Service (CSP) in 1956, he served in different capacities in the government of East Pakistan, Central government of Pakistan, and then Bangladesh.  He was appointed as the Secretary of Planning in January, 1972 and Secretary of the External Resources Division of Finance and Planning Ministry in May, 1977.

During his service as the Chief and Deputy Secretary of Pakistan Planning Commission, he made a report on the disparity between East and West Pakistan in 1966 and that was the first report submitted on that issue in Pakistan National Assembly in fulfillment of constitutional obligation. He was the first diplomat of Washington Embassy of Pakistan who transferred his allegiance to Bangladesh in June during the Independence War of 1971.

Mr. Muhith has earned outstanding reputation in economic diplomacy. He has been a recognized figure in World Bank, IMF, IDB, ADB and in different organizations of the United Nations for quite a long period.

He went for early retirement in 1981 from his service and started his second innings of glorious career as a consultant on economic and development matters in Ford Foundation and in IFAD. He became Finance and Planning Minister from March 1982 to December 1983. Next, he worked as a consultant in different institutions of WB and the UN. He was a Visiting Fellow of W. Wilson School at Princeton University in 1984 and 1985.

Mr. Muhith is equally gifted as a writer. He published 22 books on different subjects including liberation war, economic development, history, public administration and political problems.

He is a pioneer of Bangladesh Environment Movement and was also the founder President of BAPA as well as its predecessor Porosh.

Mr. Muhith is married. His wife Syed Sabia Muhith is a designer. They are parents of two sons and a daughter. Their daughter Samina Muhith is a banker and specialist in economic and monetary policy in New York. Their elder son Shahed Muhith is an architect and IT expert in Dhaka and youngest son Samir Muhith is a school teacher in Houston, Texas.

Mr. Muhith took oath as the Finance Minister of Bangladesh Government on 6 January, 2009 and got charge of the same Ministry again on 21 November 2013 of the election-time government. He has taken oath again as the Finance Minister on 12 January 2014.

LIFE SKETCH OF INDUSTRIES MINISTER AMIR HOSSAIN AMU

Alhaz Amir Hossain Amu was born on 1st January 1940 at Jhalakati Sub-Division under the then District of Barisal. He is the son of Mr. Md. Moazzem Hossain and Mrs. Aklima Khatun. Mr. Amir Hossain Amu was sent to jail in 1954 for his direct participation in the campaign of United Front. He was selected as the Convener of ‘Language Day Celebration Committee’ of “Sarbodolio Chattra Sangram Parishad” in 1959. He passed B.A. in 1965 from Barisal BM College and LL.B from Barisal Law College in 1968. During the period from 1959 to 1964, he carried over the position of Secretary and President of Bangladesh Chattra League, Barisal District Branch respectively. Later on, he became the Convener of ‘Sarbodolio Chattra Sangram Committee’ in 1962.

Mr. Amu was elected as Publicity Secretary of Bangladesh Chattra League Central Committee in 1965. In 1962, he participated directly in Democratic Movement and also took part in the movement against the ‘Hamidur Rahman Shiksha Commission Report’ in 1963. He was also selected as the Convener of ‘Convention Movement’ in 1964. He had been the member of the then East Pakistan Chattra League during 1958. He headed the position of Publicity Secretary in 1965 and Treasurer of Central Chattra League in 1967. During the period 1959-1962, Mr. Amu was selected as General Secretary and President of Barisal Zilla Chattra League. In 1964, Mr. Amir Hossain Amu was Convener of “Sarbodolio Nirbachan Prochar Committee” of greater Barisal Zilla of Miz Fatima Jinnah Electoral Area. He was elected as Vice President of Barisal Brojomohan College Student Parliament during 1963 to 1964. He took a vital role in 6-points movements in 1966. He also took the responsibility of proclamation as a main molder of the Mass Movement of 1969.

After completion of Post Graduation Degree in History from Dhaka University, Mr. Amir Hossain Amu engaged himself in politics of Bangladesh Awami League directly alongside his law profession. He was elected in the Provincial Parishad Election from the Constituency of Barisal Sadar. During the Liberation War in 1971, Mr. Amu was carried out the responsibility of five districts- Barisal, Khulna, Patuakhali, Jessore and Faridpur as the chief of ‘Mujib Bahini’. In 1972, he was nominated as a founder senior Presidium member of Bangladesh Jubo League. He was elected as a member of parliament from the constituency area of Jhalakati and Razapur in 1973. He became the President of Jhalakati Awami League in 1972 and also was nominated as the Governor of Jhalakati District in 1975. He was imprisoned for three years under the Special Power Acts during 1975 to 1978. But the then Govt. failed to put up any case against him and he was released from the jail after filing a writ petition in high court. Mr. Amu had been the Chairman of Bangladesh Awami Jubo League during 1978 to 1986. At the same time, he held the position of Joint Secretary of Bangladesh Awami League. Besides, Mr. Amu completed his role as the President of Barisal and Jhalakati District Awami League in 1980. He was the Joint Secretary of Bangladesh Awami League Central Committee during 1981-1992. He was elected as the Presidium Member of Central Committee of Bangladesh Awami League in 1992.

Mr. Amir Hossain Amu revealed his potential leadership in the movement against the then Ershad Government from 1983 to 1990. Later he was taken to the prison in 1996 for participation in the movement against unruliness of Khaleda Government. He performed the holy Hajj for five times during 1995, 1997, 1998, 1999 and 2000 as the royal guest of Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. During his political life, he has made infrastructural development and built a lot of School, College, Madrasha, Road, Bridge, Culvert etc. To meet up the fundamental rights of the Natural Disaster affected people, he has taken various activities time to time. He kept himself close to them to serve and meet their constant needs. Besides, he has successfully taken the responsibility of relief distribution and rehabilitated the disaster victims as the Chairman of Bangladesh Central Awami League Relief Committee. Mr. Amu was the Chairman of 50 years celebration Committee of Bangladesh Awami League in 1999.

Mr. Amir Hossain Amu was elected as a parliament member as Awami League backed candidate in the 7th National Parliament election. During that time, he was the Minister in the Ministry of Food of the Peoples’ Republic of Bangladesh. He was again elected as the Member of Parliament in 9th National Parliament Election on 29th December 2008 as nominated by Bangladesh Awami League. He was the member of the Parliament Standing Committee of the Ministry of Religious Affairs and also the Ministry of Liberation War Affairs in 9th National Parliament. Mr. Amu participated in 59th Commonwealth Parliamentary Conference in South Africa on 28 August 2013 as a Delegate for 10 days national visit. Mr. Amir Hossain Amu took over the charge as the Minister for Land and Disaster Management & Relief of the polls-time government in November last. He was again elected as a parliament member in the 10th National Parliament Election on January 05, 2014 and was sworn-in as the Minister of Industries of the present government on January 12, 2014.

Mr. Amir Hossain Amu is a veteran political leader and social reformer. He earned love and respect of Parliament Members and people from all walks of life for his brilliant speeches in parliamentary debate on various national issues.

LIFE SKETCH OF AGRICULTURE MINISTER MATIA CHOWDHURY

Matia Chowdhury, popularly known as ‘Agni-kannaya’ (the daughter of fire) was born on June 30, 1942 at Nazirpur of Pirozpur District. Her father late Mohiuddin Ahmed Chowdhury was a police officer. Her husband late Bazlur Rahman was a renowned Journalist and the editor of the popular Bengali Daily ‘The Sangbad’.

Matia Chowdhury started her political career from her student life. She actively participated in the movement against the Ayub regime and the movement against the Education Commission of 1962. She was elected the Vice-President of Dhaka Eden Girls College Students’ Union in 1963 and the General Secretary of Dhaka University Central Students’ Union (DUCSU) in 1964-65.

During her days in Dhaka University Matia Chowdhury became the unparallel student leader. She was then awarded the title ‘Agni-kannaya’ for her extraordinary leadership. She was the president of the then East Pakistan Students’ Union in 1965-66. Between 1967 and `69 time and again she was organizing anti Ayub movement and was detained in jail for about 2 years. She was released from jail during the mass upsurge of 1969.

Responding to the leadership and clarion call of Bangabandhu Sheikh Muzibur Rahman, Matia Chowdhury actively participated in the Bangladesh’s independence struggle in 1971. During the nine-month long war she engaged herself in armed training, campaigning, lobbying and nursing the wounded. She worked ceaselessly as one of the courageous and inspiring organizers to lead the freedom fighters towards independence.

After the emergence of Bangladesh Matia Chowdhury engaged herself in nation building activities under National Awami Party and became its organizing secretary. She joined the Awami League in 1979.

Life Sketch of Health and Family Welfare Minister Mohammed Nasim

 Mr. Mohammed Nasim, MP was born on 2nd April 1948 in a highly respectable family in Sirajganj district of Bangladesh. His father Late M Monsoor Ali, one of the great organizers of the War of Independence of Bangladesh, was the Prime Minister of the Government of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh in Bangabandhu’s Cabinet. His mother’s name is Amena Monsoor.
 
Mr. Mohammed Nasim, also the Presidium Member of the ruling party Bangladesh Awami League, was elected as the Member of Parliament in 1986, 1991, 1996, 2001 and 2014.
     
He was graduated in Political Science from Jagannath University. He was sworn in as the Minister in the Present Cabinet on 12 January, 2014.
 
Previously, in his long successful political career, he had got the opportunity of working as Minister for the Ministry of Home Affairs, Ministry of Housing & Public Works and also for the Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications.
 
He is an active social worker. He is a great contributor of establishing many educational institutes in Sirajganj.  
 
He is married to Mrs Laila Arjumand and blessed with three sons.

Life Sketch of Liberation War Affairs Minister A K M Mozammel Huq  

 A K M Mozammel Huq was born in the village of Dakhin Khan in Gazipur Sadar Upzilla on the 1st October, 1946. His Father's name is Late Dr. Anwar Ali and Mother's name is Late Rabeya Khatun.    

A K M Mozammel Huq has a long and distinguished political career. He was active in student politics and worked as a member of East Pakistan Students League's Central Working Committee for one term and as an Assistant General Secretary for two terms. He has been working as General Secretary and President of Gazipur District unit Awami League since 1976.  

He is a valiant freedom fighter and organizer. He was the convener of the first armed striking committee and led an attack against the Pakistani military force led by Brigadier Zahan Zeb on the 19th March 1971 in Gazipur. 

He contributed meaningfully in local government administration. He was elected three-times as Union Parishad (UP) Chairman from 1973 to 1986 and four-times as Gazipur Municipality Chairman and Mayor. He was awarded as the best Union Parishad Chairman for several times and best Municipality city Chairman in 1996 and 2003. He played the most important role to shift the Sub-Divisional Office (SDO) of Dhaka to Gazipur and to establish Gazipur as a separate district. He resigned from the post of Mayor of Gazipur Municipality in 2008 and was elected as the Member of Parliament from Gazipur-1 constituency in the 9th Parliament. At that time he chaired the Parliamentary Standing Committee for the Ministry Land. During the election of 5 January 2014, he was elected Member of Parliament uncontested and appointed as Minister for the Ministry of Liberation War Affairs.    

A K M Mozammel Huq is engaged with various educational and social activities. He visited many countries of Asia, Europe and Australia for official purposes.

In personal life he is married and father of three children.

Life Sketch of Mr. Obaidul Quader, Minister for the Ministry of Road Transport and Bridges   

Mr. Obaidul Quader was born on January 01, 1952 in Bara Rajapur, a village under Companiganj Upazilla of Noakhali. His father Mosharrof Hussain studied at Calcutta Islamia College and happened to be a classmate of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. Quitting civil service his father engaged himself with noble teaching profession. His mother Fazilatunessa was from a noble Muslim family.

Always a commendable student, Mr. Obaidul Quader matriculated from Basurhat Government A.H.C. High School and got first division. He completed his HSC from Noakhali Government College and was placed in the merit list. He graduated from the University of Dhaka in Political Science. His wife Isratunnesa Quader is a prominent lawyer.

A born dreamer as well as a natural orator, Mr. Obaidul Quader owns a long and rich political career. He is renowned as a sophisticated, generous, prudent and dedicated political leader. Since his college days, he has always been dynamically involved in politics.

He played an active role during the 6-Point Movement in 1966. He took part actively in the Mass Upsurge and the 11-Point Movement of students in 1969. In 1971, he participated in the Liberation War of Bangladesh as the Commander of  Companigonj Thana Mujib Forces.

As a political leader, he has never wavered in his devotion to the party and the nation. He was imprisoned at several stages of his action-packed political life. After 1975, he was imprisoned for an uninterrupted two and a half years. While in prison, he was elected as the President of the Central Committee of Bangladesh Chhatra League (the student wing of Bangladesh Awami League), and he remained so for two consecutive terms.

Mr. Obaidul Quader was a member of the Executive Committee formed to celebrate the Bengali Year 1400. He was also the member-secretary of the Committee for celebrating the silver jubilee of the Liberation War and Independence.

Mr. Obaidul Quader was elected as a Member of Parliament from the constituency Noakhali-5 in the 7th parliamentary elections of June 12, 1996. On June 23, 1996 he was appointed as the State Minister for Youth, Sports and Cultural Affairs. He carried out his responsibilities with utmost honesty and sincerity till July 15, 2001. He is the member of Presidium, Standing Committee and Parliamentary Board of Bangladesh Awami League.

He served as the Secretary of Cultural Affairs and Education of the Central Executive Committee of Bangladesh Awami League from June 23, 2000 to December 26, 2002. He was elected first Senior Joint General Secretary of Bangladesh Awami League from December 26, 2002 to July 26, 2009. While serving Bangladesh Awami League as the Joint General Secretary during the tenure of post 1/11 Caretaker Government, he was arrested on March 09, 2007 and remained in prison for 17 months and 26 days.

Mr. Obaidul Quader was seriously wounded by the grisly grenade attack on August 21, 2004. He was admitted into the Apollo Hospital in Delhi where doctors removed about 80 splinters from his body. While he was in prison in the aftermath of 1/11, he became almost paralyzed on the right side due to the remaining splinters in his body. Later on, 14 more splinters were removed from his body from the same Hospital. Though he is in good health now, there are still 18 splinters left in his body.

On November 2011 he took oath as Minister of the Government. On 5th December Honourable Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina had assigned him with the responsibility of the Communication Ministry. He had discharged his responsibility as Minister for Ministry of Road Transport and Bridges with great devotion, patriotism, integrity, acumen and as a benovolent political leader. In his tenure he visited 63 districts of Bangladesh and enhanced the image and performance of the Communication Ministry a lot. He also continued as the Minister for Communication during All Party Government from 21st November 2013 to 12th January 2014.

Mr. Obaidul Quader elected as a Member of Parliament on 5th January 2014 from the constituency Noakhali-5 for the third time in the 10th Parliamentary Election and took oath as the Communication Minister on 12th January 2014 for the second time.

Mr. Quader has also been an active journalist and writer. He worked as the assistant editor of the newspaper the Daily Banglar Bani for a long time. So far, he has authored nine books namely, Bangladesh: A Revolution Betrayed (published in 1976 by Monisha Publishers, Kolkata); Bangladesher Hridoy Hote; Pakistaner Karagare Bangabandhu; Ei Bijoyer Mukut Kothai; Teen Somudrer Deshe; Meghe Meghe Onek Bela; Rochona Somogro; Karagare Lekha Onusmriti: Je Kotha Bola Hoyni and Nirbachito Column. His works have been acclaimed by eminent critics both in home and abroad.

Mr. Obaidul Quader travelled India, Malaysia, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, United States of America, United Kingdom, South Africa, China, Germany, Singapore, Thailand, Turkey, Italy, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and United Arab Emirates.

Life Sketch of Water Resources Minister Anwar Hossain  

Mr. Anwar Hossain was born in Bhandaria under Pirojpur district on 9 February 1944. He is the second son of the founder editor of the Daily Ittefaq, a doen of journalism Late Tofazzal Hossain Manik Miah. Mr. Hossain had his Bachelor of Arts (BA) with honours degree in Geography from Dhaka University and obtained Masters of Arts (MA) in International Relations from George Town University, Washington DC, USA. 

Mr. Hossain was the elected General Secretary (GS) of Fazlul Haq Hall of Dhaka University in 1966-67 and Vice President (VP) in 1967-68. He was elected President of the National Press Club in 1980. He was also the President of Bangladesh Editor's Council.

Mr. Hossain started his career as a journalist in the Daily Ittefaq in 1969 and had been working as its editor since 1972. He was the Minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Ministry from March 1985 to March 1988 and for Communication Ministry from March 1988 to December 1990. In the 12 June '96 Parliamentary elections, he was elected MP from Pirojpur-2 and Jhalakathi-1 constituencies. He was elected MP from Pirojpur-2 constituency in 1986, 1988 and 1991 Parliamentary elections. 

Mr. Hossain was one of the members of Bangladesh delegation to United Nations conference attended the Bangdu conference in Indonesia. He visited Muslim states of the world and China as a member of the good will-mission delegations from Bangladesh. Besides, he visited Japan, USA, UK, Italy, South Korea, India, Pakistan and many other countries of the world.

Mr. Hossain is the founder of Barisal Begum Tofazzal Hossain Manik Miah Mahila College, Majeda Begum Mohila College and many other educational institutions.

He is married and father of four daughters.

He has been given the Charge of Adviser to the Prime Minister on 24 November 2013.  He took oath on 12 January 2014 as a Minister of the Ministry of Environment and Forests and on 3 January 2018 he has been reallocated to Water Resources ministry.

Life Sketch of Shipping Minister Shajahan Khan

Shajahan Khan was born on 1st January, 1952. He comes of a respectable Muslim family in Madaripur. His father late Advocate Moulavi Asmat Ali Khan was a repected politician, educationist, social worker and Member of Parliament. His mother late Tajan Nesa Begum was a House wife.

He passed the S S C examination from United Islamia high School, Madaripur in 1966 and H S C from Madaripur Nazimuddin College in 1968. Shajhan Khan obtained Bachelor’s Degree from Govt. Nazimuddin College under Dhaka University.

Shajahan Khan started student ploitics by joning the movement against the Hamidur Rahman education commission in 1964. He got inspired with the ideal of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman in student politics. He was the elected Secretary of Chchatra Legue of Madaripur subdivision in 1966-67 and 1967-68. He was the GS and VP of Nazimuddin College. He is the Vice President of Jatio Sramik League and Executive President of Bangladesh Road Transport Workers Federation.

He played very singificant role in the historic Liberation war in 1971. He participated in all democratic movement and played active pioneering role.

He is involved in various social activities. Shajahan Khan travelled Russia, India, Nepal, UAE, Newzealand, Malaysia, Singapore, UK, Scotland, Japan, Kenya, Thailand and Italy.

Shajahan Khan is married and is blessed with one daughter and two sons. His wife Sayeda Rokeya Begum is a Teacher.

Shajahan Khan was elected Member of Parliament of 9th Jatiya Sangsad on 29th December, 2008 and took oath as a Minister on 31st July, 2009.  He has got the charge of the Ministry of Shipping and Liberation War Affairs on 21 November 2013. Earlier he was elected MP for the fourth time since 1986. Mr. Shajahan took oath as the Minister of the Ministry of Shipping on 12 January 2014.

Life Sketch of Mr. Anisul Huq,Minister for Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs

Mr. Anisul Huq was born in a respectable Muslim family on 30 March 1956. His father Sirajul Huq (late) was a reputed lawyer and Member of Parliament (MP) as well. His mother’s name is Jahanara Begum.

Mr. Huq had his Secondary and Higher Secondary education from Saint Joseph High School, Dhaka. He obtained graduation with Honours in English Literature and post graduation in the same subject from the University of Dhaka. He also obtained a post graduation degree in Law from the renowned King’s College of the University of London.

Mr. Anisul Huq received a ‘call to the bar’ in 1985 and was enrolled as an Advocate of Bangladesh High Court in 1987. He had been a practising Senior Advocate in the Supreme Court of Bangladesh for 10 years.

Mr. Huq is associated with the creation of a number of historical laws of Bangladesh. Along with his father, he was the prosecutor of the historic Bangabandhu Assassination Case. The Father and Son would be ever remembered for their relentless effort in bringing out the much awaited judgement through which the nation has become free of a long-time stigma. He was also the government appointed lawyer in Peelkhana Carnage Case and rounded off it successfully.

 A widely traveled person Mr. Anisul Huq has visited a good number of countries of the world including the USA, UK, Canada, Singapore and India.

 In the 10th National Parliamentary election Mr. Anisul Huq got Awami League nomination from Brahmanbaria-4 constituency and was elected Member of Parliament. He was inducted in the Cabinet of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on 12 January 2014 and was given the charge of the Ministry of Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs.

Life Sketch of Foreign Minister Mr. Abul Hassan Mahmood Ali, MP

Mr. Abul Hassan Mahmood Ali, MP was born in 1943 in Dinajpur, Bangladesh. He received BA Honours (1962) and MA (1963) in economics from the University of Dhaka. He taught Economics at the University of Dhaka (1964-66) before joining the Pakistan Foreign Service (PFS) in 1966.   

In his long distinguished diplomatic career, he served in various capacities at the Headquarters in Dhaka and at Bangladesh Missions in abroad which include New York as Vice-Consul, Acting Consul General, New Delhi as First Secretary, Counsellor and Deputy High Commissioner and Beijing as Deputy Chief of Mission with the rank of an Ambassador.

Mr. Ali served as the Bangladesh Ambassador to Bhutan (1986-1990), Germany (1992-1995) with concurrent accreditation to Austria, Czech Republic and Slovak Republic, Nepal (February to October 1996), and High Commissioner to the United Kingdom (1996-2001) with concurrent accreditation to Ireland. In fact, Mr. Mahmood Ali was the first Ambassador of Bangladesh to Ireland with residence in London.

At the Headquarters, Mr. Ali served as a Director General for various Wings which include Administration, International Organizations, United Nations and Economic Affairs, Policy Planning, South Asia and Human Rights. As Additional Foreign Secretary (Bilateral), he negotiated and signed the Tin Bigha Corridor Implementation Agreement with India in 1992. He also negotiated the Burmese Refugees Repatriation Agreement with Myanmar in 1992.

Mr. Ali is a valiant freedom fighter and made enormous contribution in the diplomatic front of the war of liberation of Bangladesh in 1971. He worked for Bangladesh's independence in the U.S. and at the United Nations. Immediately after arriving in New York in 1968, he mobilised the Bangali community in the United States in favour of independence of Bangladesh. He joined the Bangladesh Liberation War in April 1971 and was appointed as the Representative of the Provisional Government of Bangladesh at Mujibnagar in the United States in May 1971. He also acted as the Executive Assistant to Justice Abu Sayeed Chowdhury, Chief Overseas Representative of the Mujibnagar Government and Leader of the Bangladesh Delegation to the United Nations
in 1971.

Mr. Ali retired from active service in April 2001 and joined Bangladesh Awami League. He served as a member of Awami League Central Election Committee in 2001. Mr. Ali was appointed as a member of the Central Advisory Council of the party in December 2002. Later, he was appointed as Co-Chairman of Sub-Committee on International Affairs of the party. He was elected to Parliament as an Awami League candidate in December 2008 from Dinajpur. He was also elected as Chairman of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. 

Mr. Ali was appointed as the Minister for Ministry of Disaster Management and Relief after the establishment of a separate Ministry of Disaster Management and Relief in September 2012. Following the formation of the all-party election-time Government on 21 November 2013, he was appointed as Foreign Affairs Minister. Later Mr. Ali was appointed as Foreign Affairs Minister on 26 February 2014 after 10thParliamentary election held on 5 January, 2014.

Mr. Ali likes reading, enjoys music and games, especially tennis. In their personal lives, Mr. and Mrs. Ali have two sons who become well established.

LIFE SKETCH OF CULTURAL AFFAIRS MINISTER ASADUZZAMAN NOOR

Asaduzzaman Noor was born on 31 October 1946 at Nilphamari District Sadar. His father’s name is Abu Nazem Mohammad Ali and mother’s name is Amina Begum.

He completed his Graduation from Nilphamari College.

He started his career in 1972 to work in a well circulated weekly named ‘Chitraly’. In 1973, he started working in an advertising firm as a General Manager. He joined in Soviet Embassy
(at present Russia) as a Press Relation Officer. In 1980, he joined in East Asiatic Advertising Ltd. (at present Asiatic Three Sixty) as General Manager. Later he became one of the share holders of the company and now he is the Vice Chairman of Asiatic group of companies. He is also the Managing Director of Desh TV Ltd.

His career in theatre started in 1973 when he joined the largest group ‘Nagorik’. Till then, he made more than 600 appearances in 15 different plays of the group. He directed a number of plays. He wrote plays for stage and TV. He acted in more than 110 TV plays and serials, such as-Kothao Keu Nei, Oyomoy, Ei Sob Din Rattri, Bohubrihi etc. He acted in over 50 Radio plays and a good number of full length feature film. He produced about 50 A/V communication materials for both commercial and social communication. He is now a member of the Libaration War Museum Trustee Board, President of Abbriti Somonnoy Parishad, member of the Sommilito Sangskritik Jote and General Secretary of Bangladesh – Russia Friendship Society.

He joined East Pakistan Student Union in 1963. In 1965, he was selected the General Secretary of Nilphamari College Student Union. He was the Cultural Affairs Secretary of East Pakistan Students’ Union. In 1971, Mr. Noor actively participated in the Libaration War and later joined the Communist Party. He involved himself in various political and socio-cultural activities for a long time. These include anti Ershad movement and movement demanding the trial of war criminals under the leadership of Jahanara Imam. In 1998, he joined Bangladesh Awami League. In 2002, he was elected as Publicity Secretary of Bangladesh Awami League Central Committee and in 2009, as Cultural Affairs Secretary of Bangladesh Awami League Central Committee. In 2001 and 2008, he was elected a Member of Parliament from Nilphamari-2 constituency. He was Members of different Parliament Standing Committees of the 9th National Parliament, such as-Standing Committee for the Ministry of Cultural Affairs, Standing Committee for the Ministry of Information and Communication Technology etc. He was elected as a Parliament Member from Nilphamari-2 of the 10th National Parliament Election and he took oath on 12 January 2013 as a Minister of the Ministry of Cultural Affairs.

He visited many countries, such as- the United States, the United Kingdom, Bulgeria, Japan, Vietnam, Russia, Italy, France, India, Germany, Australia, Switzerland, Netharland etc. 

He is married. His wife’s name is Dr.Shaheen Akhter, a professor of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (child desease specialist and neurologist). Asaduzzaman Noor has one son and one daughter.

Life Sketch of Mustafa Jabbar Ministry for Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology

Mustafa Jabbar has taken on Oath as Minister of Bangladesh Government today. President Md. Abdul Hamid swore him at the Bangabhaban. Mustafa Jabbar is well known to the people of Bangladesh and Bengali speaking people of the world for his milestone works.

Minister Jabbar has leaded the ICT industry as the president of Bangladesh Computer Samity, the national ICT organisation of Bangladesh in 1996-97 & 2008-14. He is now president of BASIS.

Mustafa Jabbar came from a remote village of Bangladesh. Getting his higher education (Graduation and Masters) in Bangla Language & Literature from the University of Dhaka, he started his career as a journalist on 16 January 1972. He was a member of Mujib Bahini (Bangladesh Liberation Force) in 1971 and participated in the War of Liberation of Bangladesh. He was involved in the movement of freedom of press and was actively associated with the Dhaka Union of Journalists. He was elected as the Organising Secretary of DUJ.

Doing some businesses in Media, Travel & Tour Operation, Printing, Publishing and Computer Reselling, he is now engaged in software development, providing IT education, developing IT enabled educational curriculum, developing course materials for ICT education, creating software and providing ICT services, doing researches on ICT, ICT journalism and writing books on ICT and other subjects. His first novel named Nokshotrer Onger was published in a book form in 2005. His second novel named Suborne Shekorh was published in the Fortnightly Tarokalok's Eid issue of 2006.  He was also involved in developing a local laptop brand named BIJOY.

Mustafa Jabbar is the technology leader and promoter of ICT in Bangladesh. He is the founder member of Bangladesh Computer Samity and Bangladesh Association of Software and Services. He has been elected president of Bangladesh Computer Samity for the fourth term. He was also the founder vice president of BASIS.

Minister Jabbar is more recognised as the local language solution provider in Bangla, Chakma, Asamese, Hindi & developer of Bijoy Bangla Keyboard & Software and expert in Graphics-Multimedia. He has developed Bangla Braille publishing system which enables blind people to use Bangla Braille in computer. He is also regarded as the Master of Digital Bangla Font designing. He has developed Bijoy Library, a library of management Software which is being used by famous libraries of Bangladesh including British Council. He has developed a software named Bijoy Shishu Shiksha for pre school kids. He has developed Prathomik Computer Shiksha, based on Text Books published by NCTB. He has established a large number of schools in Bangladesh including computer based Ananda Multimedia School and Bijoy Digital School.

He has been given the charge of Posts Telecommunications and Information Technology ministry on 3 January 2018.
