Prime Minister’s message on the Victory Day

Dhaka, 15 December :  

            Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has given the following message on the occasion of great Victory Day :  

            “Today is the 16 December, the Great Victory Day. This is the day of greatest pride for the Bangali nation. Responding to the clarion call of the greatest Bangali of all time, the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, the Bangali nation earned the ultimate victory on this day in 1971 after 23 years of intense political struggle and a 9-month bloody war against, the Pakistani occupation forces.

            I extend my sincere greetings and warm felicitations to the countrymen at home and abroad on the occasion of the 47^th Victory Day. On this glorious day, I pay my deep homage to the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. 1 recall with gratitude the four national leaders and three million martyrs, who sacrificed their lives and two hundred thousand women who lost their innocence for the cause of our independence.        

            Bangali nation got prepared for independence waging the Language Movement of 1952, the Education Movement of 1962, the 6-point Demand of 1966, 11-point Movement and the Mass Upsurge of 1969 under the undaunted and firm leadership of the Father of the Nation. Awami League earned an overwhelming majority in the general elections of 1970 through which Bangali nation's aspiration for independence got legal basis. Bangabandhu realized that the oppression, persecution and deprivation meted out to the Bangali nation would not be ended without achieving the independence. Ultimately, on the historic 7^th March of 1971, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib in front of a million of people at the then Race Course Maidan declared that, "This time the struggle is for our freedom, this time the struggle is for-the independence". Virtually, from that day, the final chapter had been started for achieving an independent Bangladesh. The country-wide non-cooperation movement had begun at the directives of Bangabandhu as part of the final preparations of the liberation War.        

            On the fateful night of 25 March of 1971, the Pakistani occupation forces launched a brutal onslaught and committed genocide on the innocent and unarmed Bangalis. The Father of the Nation declared independence of Bangladesh in the early hours of the 26 March of 1971 resulting in the formal War of Independence.

            On the 10 April of 1971, the proclamation of independence was announced by the elected people's representatives and the first Government of the People's Republic of Bangladesh was formed with Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, as the President, Syed Nazrul Islam as Vice-President and Tajuddin Ahmed as Prime Minister. This government was sworn-in on the 17 April of 1971 at the historic Mujibnagar in Meherpur and led the war of independence. Under the leadership of this government, the liberation war had gained momentum. The heroic freedom fighters with the help of the allied forces earned the victory on the 16 December of 1971 by defeating Pakistani occupation forces and their local collaborators Rajakars, Al-Badrs and Al-Shams. The nation ultimately earned an independent country, own national flag and national anthem. The heroism and patriotism of the Bangali nation created a new history in the world.

            As Bangabandhu had engaged himself in the struggle to build a "Golden Bengal" reconstructing the war-ravaged country, the anti-liberation forces in collusion with the war criminals assassinated Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib along with most of his family members. Through the heinous killings of the 15 August 1975, they initiated the politics of killings, coup and conspiracy and obstructed the process to try the killers of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib through promulgating Indemnity Ordinance. They ruined the democracy by declaring Martial Law and formed an illegal government. They distorted the glorious history of our independence. They defaced the Constitution and gagged the press freedom. The BNP-Jaraat alliance government had followed the paths of their predecessors.

The Bangali nation reestablished the democracy in 1996 through a long struggle and sacrifice. Our government's 1996-2001 tenure will always be manifested as a glorious period in our national history. The Bangali nation reestablished democracy and rights of the people in 2008 through a long struggle. The nation overwhelmingly voted in favour of Awami League, the party that led the War of Liberation, in the much-awaited parliamentary elections. The Awami League-led Grand Alliance Government ensured the franchise of the people by bringing the 15 amendment to the Constitution which prohibited usurpation of the state power.

The people of Bangladesh again made Awami League victorious in the 5 January elections in 2014 and thereby preserved the continuation of the constitutional process. Our government has relentlessly been working for the development of the country and its people as per its election pledges.

Our government has been taking forward the country with immense developments in all sectors, including economy, agriculture, education, transport and communication, 1CT, infrastructure, power generation, rural economy and diplomatic relation and cooperation during the last nine years. Bangladesh has already been elevated to a lower middle income country. In the index of economic progress, Bangladesh is one of the top five countries of the world.

Bangladesh has become the role model in development of the world. In the last fiscal, the GDP growth rate was 7.28 Percent. The rate of poverty was reduced to 22 percent. People's income and purchasing capacity have substantially been raised. The per capita income has been raised to USD 1610. The foreign exchange reserve has now increased to USD 33 billion. Five crore people have been upgraded to the middle class group. The country has attained self-sufficiency in food production. The students are getting free textbooks. The literacy rate is now over 72 Percent. Eighty three percent people of the country have come under the electricity coverage. The healthcare facilities are being provided to the doorsteps of the people. Thirty types of medicines are being provided to the poor free of cost. The life expectancy has risen to 71 years and 8 months. Digital Bangladesh has been established. Lots of projects have been implementing for the development in road, rail, highways, bridges, flyover, elevated express-ways, under-pass, waterways and overall communication infrastructures etc across the country. The construction work of metro-rail project has been started. We are constructing the Padma bridge with own fund. We have executed the verdict of the trial of the killers of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib establishing the rule of law. The verdicts of the trials of the war criminals are also being executed. The trials of war criminals will be continued as per our pledges to the nation.

The historic 7th March Speech of the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman has been included in the international memory of the world register as World Documentary Heritage by UNESCO. This recognition of the 7th March Speech has made the whole nation proud once again.

We have peacefully resolved the land boundary problem with India. Disputes with India and Myanmar on maritime boundary have also been resolved. Bangladesh's contribution to the various international forums for establishing global peace has been lauded. The world is now acclaiming Bangladesh for attaining remarkable progress in socio-economic fronts. All these were possible through continuation of the constitutional and democratic process.

We have been working relentlessly to build a hunger and poverty-free and a peaceful middle-income Bangladesh by 2021and a developed and prosperous one by 2041. We are hopeful of building a Golden Bangladesh as dreamt by the Father of the Nation through implementing the Visions 2021 and 2041.

Let us come and uphold the development and democratic spree being Imbued with the spirit of the freedom struggle. Let us engage ourselves for the welfare of the country. Let this be our vow on the Victory Day of 2017.

President's message on the Victory day

Dhaka, 15 December :

            President Md. Abdul Hamid has given the following message on the occasion of the great Victory Day :     

            “16 December is our victory day, a glorious and memorable day in the history of the Bangali nation. On the eve of the day, I extend my sincere felicitations and warm congratulations to my fellow countrymen living at home and abroad.

               Independence is the greatest achievement of the Bangali nation but it was not attained in a day. Father of the Nation, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, the undisputed leader, declared the historic independence on March 26, 1971 after overcoming various ups and downs and staging long movement and agitation against Pakistani government. The ultimate victory was achieved through a nine-month long war of liberation under his leadership. Today, I recall with profound respect the greatest Bangali of all time, Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman whose boundless sacrifices, uncompromising and charismatic leadership contributed to the emergence of Bangladesh as an independent and sovereign state in world. I pay my deep homage to the valiant freedom fighters who made supreme sacrifice in the war of liberation for the cause of country’s independence. I also extend my deep gratitude to the organisers and supporters and the people from all strata who directly and indirectly made meaningful contributions to our war of liberation. I extend my sincere thanks to UNESCO for the recognition of the historic 7th March speech of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman as a world’s important documentary heritage and include it in the ‘International Memory of the World Register’. This recognition is the source of inspiration and a great pride for Bangali Nation.

               The importance and significance of great victory day is boundless in our national history. On one hand victory has given us our own identity and on the other hand it has elevated us to world arena as an independent nation. But it is an irony that the path of development and the practice of democratic norms were not functioning smoothly all the time. The emergence of military autocracy and undemocratic government came into being after the assassination of Father of the Nation on 15 August in 1975 that hindered the flourishing of democratic pluralism. After about 6 years of exile, Sheikh Hasina, daughter of Bangabandhu, returned home on 17 May in 1981 and started movement against autocratic government for reviving democracy. Through a long struggle, democratic government has now been established in the country. With the formulation of appropriate planning and making its best implementation, Bangladesh has achieved manifold successes both at home and abroad. The mega projects like Padma Bridge are being implemented with our own resources. Construction of the Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant is started and it will generate 2400 MW electricity by the year 2024. Bangabandhu Satellite will be launched soon. This will be a new horizon for the development of telecommunication sector. Bangladesh is now being considered as a role-model in the world for socio-economic development. These have been possible due to intellectual-mind, tireless hard work and undaunted courage of our people. Foreign Remittance being sent by expatriate Bangladeshis is making immense contribution to our national economy. They are also the proud partners of our development. The government has successfully attained the targets of MDGs and now providing its continued efforts to achieve the targets of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by 2030.  

               Our foreign policy is being exercised in accordance with the principle "Friendship to all, malice to none" as adopted by the Father of the Nation. This year, Bangladesh has set a unique example by providing shelter to millions of forcefully displaced and tortured Rohingyas fled from Rakhine State of Myanmar on humanitarian ground. But it is very difficult for Bangladesh to bear the burden of such a huge homeless people. Bangladesh believes in a peaceful solution to the problem. I urge the UN and the international community, including Myanmar, to take immediate effective measures for the permanent settlement of this problem. 

               Millions have sacrificed their lives for our independence. Combined efforts are imperative to make the sacrifice meaningful. On the eve of the victory day, I urge the countrymen to make more contributions from their respective positions in implementing the spirit of the liberation war and take the nation towards a prosperous future.

               The Government has set ‘Vision 2021’ and ‘Vision 2041’ for transforming Bangladesh into a developed country. I am hopeful that we would be able to materialise the visions within the stipulated time by utilizing our huge human resources and information technology, Insha Allah. On the occasion of great victory day, I hope that our coordinated efforts will turn Bangladesh into a hunger and poverty free prosperous ‘Sonar Bangla’ (Golden Bengal) as dreamt by Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.

রাষ্ট্রপতি মোঃ আবদুল হামিদ মহান বিজয় দিবস উপলক্ষে নিম্নোক্ত বাণী প্রদান করেছেন :   
    “১৬ ডিসেম্বর মহান বিজয় দিবস, বাঙালি জাতির ইতিহাসে এক অনন্য গৌরবময় দিন। বিজয় দিবসের এই শুভক্ষণে আমি দেশবাসী এবং প্রবাসে বসবাসরত বাংলাদেশিদের জানাই আন্তরিক শুভেচ্ছা ও অভিনন্দন।
    বাঙালি জাতির শ্রেষ্ঠ অর্জন স্বাধীনতা। তবে তা একদিনে অর্জিত হয়নি। দীর্ঘ আন্দোলন সংগ্রাম ও নানা চড়াই-উৎরাই পেরিয়ে ১৯৭১ সালের ২৬ মার্চ বাঙালি জাতির অবিসংবাদিত নেতা জাতির পিতা বঙ্গবন্ধু শেখ মুজিবুর রহমান ঐতিহাসিক স্বাধীনতার ঘোষণা দেন। তাঁরই আহ্বানে ও নেতৃত্বে দীর্ঘ ন’মাস সশস্ত্র মুক্তিযুদ্ধের মাধ্যমে চূড়ান্ত বিজয় অর্জিত হয়। আমি আজ বিন¤্র চিত্তে পরম শ্রদ্ধার সাথে স্মরণ করছি সর্বকালের সর্বশ্রেষ্ঠ বাঙালি জাতির পিতা বঙ্গবন্ধু শেখ মুজিবুর রহমানকে, যাঁর অপরিসীম ত্যাগ ও আপোশহীন নেতৃত্বে পৃথিবীর মানচিত্রে জন্ম নেয় স্বাধীন-সার্বভৌম বাংলাদেশ। আমি গভীর শ্রদ্ধায় স¥রণ করি মুক্তিযুদ্ধে আত্মোৎসর্গকারী বীর শহিদদের, যাঁদের সর্বোচ্চ ত্যাগের বিনিময়ে অর্জিত হয় স্বাধীনতা। বিজয়ের এই মহান দিনে আমি শ্রদ্ধা জানাই বীর মুক্তিযোদ্ধা, মুক্তিযুদ্ধের সংগঠক-সমর্থক, যুদ্ধাহত ও শহিদ পরিবারের সদস্যসহ সর্বসস্তরের জনগণকে, যাঁরা আমাদের বিজয় অর্জনে প্রত্যক্ষ ও পরোক্ষভাবে অবদান রেখেছেন। জাতি তাঁদের অবদান শ্রদ্ধাভরে স্মরণ করে।
    ১৯৭১ সালের ৭ই মার্চ রেসকোর্স ময়দানে স্বাধীনতা ও ম্ুিক্তযুদ্ধে করণীয় বিষয়ে বঙ্গবন্ধুর ঐতিহাসিক ভাষণ গত ৩০ অক্টোবর ২০১৭ ইউনেস্কো ইন্টারন্যাশনাল মেমোরি অভ্ দ্য’ ওয়ার্ল্ড ইন্টারন্যাশনাল রেজিস্টার-এ অন্তর্ভুক্ত করে ‘বিশ্বপ্রামাণ্য ঐতিহ্য’ হিসেবে স্বীকৃতি দিয়েছে। এ জন্য আমরা গর্বিত।
    বিজয় যেমন আমাদের স্বকীয়তা দিয়েছে, তেমনি বিশ্বমানচিত্রে প্রতিষ্ঠিত করেছে স্বাধীন জাতি হিসেবে। তবে আমাদের উন্নয়ন ও গণতান্ত্রিক অগ্রযাত্রার পথ সবসময় মসৃণ ছিল না। ১৯৭৫ সালের ১৫ আগস্ট জাতির পিতার হত্যার মধ্য দিয়ে দেশে সামরিক স্বৈরশাসন ও অগণতান্ত্রিক সরকারের উত্থান ঘটে এবং গণতান্ত্রিক  প্রক্রিয়া ব্যাহত হয়। বঙ্গবন্ধু কন্যা জননেত্রী শেখ হাসিনা দীর্ঘ নির্বাসন শেষে ১৯৮১ সালের ১৭ মে দেশে  প্রত্যাবর্তন করে গণতন্ত্র পুনরুদ্ধারে আন্দোলন  শুরু করেন।  দীর্ঘ আন্দোলন ও সংগ্রাম এবং নানা  চড়াই-উতরাই এর মধ্য দিয়ে দেশে আজ গণতান্ত্রিক সরকার প্রতিষ্ঠিত। সরকারের যুগোপযোগী পরিকল্পনা প্রণয়ন ও বাস্তবায়নের ফলে জাতীয় ও আন্তর্জাতিক ক্ষেত্রে অর্জিত হচ্ছে নানা  সাফল্য। নিজস্ব অর্থায়নে পদ্মা সেতুর মতো বৃহৎ প্রকল্পের কাজ এগিয়ে যাচ্ছে। ২০২৪ সালে ২৪০০ মেগাওয়াট বিদ্যুৎ উৎপাদনের লক্ষ্যে রূপপুর পারমাণবিক বিদ্যুৎ কেন্দ্র  স্থাপনের কাজ শুরু হয়েছে। অচিরেই বঙ্গবন্ধু স্যাটেলাইট  মহাকাশে স্থাপিত হবে। টেলিযোগাযোগ ব্যবস্থার উন্নয়নে এ হবে এক নতুন দিগন্ত।  আর্থসামাজিক নানাখাতে বাংলাদেশের অগ্রগতি আজ বিশ্ব দরবারে ‘রোলমডেল’ হিসেবে বিবেচিত হচ্ছে। এই যে অর্জন, এর পেছনে রয়েছে এদেশের সকল শ্রেণিপেশার মানুষের অসাধারণ মেধা-মনন, অক্লান্ত পরিশ্রম আর অদম্য মনোবল। আমাদের জাতীয় অর্থনীতিতে প্রবাসী বাংলাদেশিদের প্রেরিত রেমিট্যান্স গুরুত্বপূর্ণ অবদান রাখছে। তারাও আমাদের উন্নয়নের গর্বিত অংশীদার। সরকার সহ¯্রাব্দ উন্নয়ন লক্ষ্যমাত্রা সাফল্যের সাথে অর্জন করেছে। ২০৩০ সালের মধ্যে টেকসই উন্নয়ন লক্ষ্যমাত্রা অর্জনে প্রয়াস চালিয়ে যাচ্ছে।

    ‘সকলের সাথে বন্ধুত্ব, কারোর সাথে বৈরিতা নয়,’ জাতির পিতা ঘোষিত এ মূলমন্ত্রকে ধারণ করে আমাদের পররাষ্ট্রনীতি পরিচালিত হচ্ছে। চলতি বছর মিয়ানমারের রাখাইন রাজ্য থেকে নির্যাতিত ও বিতাড়িত লক্ষ লক্ষ রোহিঙ্গাকে নিতান্ত মানবিক  কারণে বাংলাদেশ আশ্রয়  দিয়ে বিশ্ব দরবারে এক অনন্য দৃষ্টান্ত স্থাপন করেছে। আশ্রয়হীন এতো মানুষের ভার বহন করা বাংলাদেশের জন্য খুবই কঠিন। বাংলাদেশ এ সমস্যার শান্তিপূর্ণ সমাধানে বিশ্বাসী । আমি এ সমস্যার স্থায়ী সমাধানে দ্রুত  কার্যকর উদ্যোগ গ্রহণের জন্য মিয়ানমারসহ জাতিসংঘ এবং আর্ন্তজাতিক সম্প্রদায়ের প্রতি আহ্বান জানাচ্ছি।     লাখো শহিদের আত্মত্যাগের বিনিময়ে অর্জিত আমাদের স্বাধীনতা-সার্বভৌমত্বকে আরো অর্থবহ করতে দলমতনির্বিশেষে সম্মিলিত প্রচেষ্টা অপরিহার্য। আমি মহান বিজয় দিবসের প্রাক্কালে দেশবাসীর প্রতি আহ্বান জানাবো আসুন, মুক্তিযুদ্ধের লক্ষ্য ও চেতনা বাস্তবায়নে নিজ নিজ অবস্থান থেকে আরো বেশি অবদান রাখি, দেশ ও জাতিকে এগিয়ে নেই সমৃদ্ধ আগামীর পথে।
    সরকার সমৃদ্ধ বাংলাদেশ বিনির্মাণে ‘ভিশন ২০২১’ ও ‘ভিশন ২০৪১’ঘোষণা করেছে। আমাদের বিপুল মানবসম্পদ ও তথ্যপ্রযুক্তির সার্থক ব্যবহারের মাধ্যমে আমরা এ ‘ভিশন’ বাস্তবায়নে সক্ষম হবো, ইনশাল্লাহ। সম্মিলিত প্রচেষ্টায় আমাদের প্রিয় মাতৃভূমি বঙ্গবন্ধুর স্বপ্নের সোনার বাংলায় পরিণত হোক, মহান বিজয় দিবসে- এ আমার প্রত্যাশা।
    খোদা হাফেজ, বাংলাদেশ চিরজীবী হোক।”

মহান বিজয় দিবসে প্রধানমন্ত্রীর বাণী

    প্রধানমন্ত্রী শেখ হাসিনা মহান বিজয় দিবস উপলক্ষে নিম্নোক্ত বাণী প্রদান করেছেন :
    “আজ ১৬ ডিসেম্বর। মহান বিজয় দিবস। বাঙালি জাতির অনন্য গৌরবের দিন। সর্বকালের সর্বশ্রেষ্ঠ বাঙালি, জাতির পিতা বঙ্গবন্ধু শেখ মুজিবুর রহমানের আহ্বানে সাড়া দিয়ে বাঙালি জাতি দীর্ঘ তেইশ বছরের রাজনৈতিক সংগ্রাম ও নয় মাসের সশস্ত্র মুক্তিযুদ্ধের মাধ্যমে ১৯৭১ সালের এই দিনে চূড়ান্ত বিজয় অর্জন করে।
    ৪৭তম মহান বিজয় দিবস পালন উপলক্ষে আমি দেশবাসীকে আন্তরিক শুভেচ্ছা ও অভিনন্দন জানাচ্ছি। বিজয়ের এই দিনে আমি গভীর শ্রদ্ধার সাথে স্মরণ করছি জাতির পিতা বঙ্গবন্ধু শেখ মুজিবুর রহমানকে। স্মরণ করছি জাতীয় চার নেতা, ত্রিশ লক্ষ শহিদ এবং দুই লক্ষ মা-বোনকে, যাঁদের অসামান্য আত্মত্যাগের বিনিময়ে আমরা পেয়েছি স্বাধীন বাংলাদেশ।
    জাতির পিতার বলিষ্ঠ ও আপোশহীন নেতৃত্বে বাঙালি জাতি বায়ান্ন’র ভাষা আন্দোলন, বাষট্টি’র শিক্ষা আন্দোলন, ছেষট্টি’র ৬-দফা, ঊনসত্তরের ১১-দফা ও গণঅভ্যুত্থানের মাধ্যমে স্বাধীনতার জন্য প্রস্তুত হয়ে ওঠে। ১৯৭০ সালের সাধারণ নির্বাচনে আওয়ামী লীগ নিরঙ্কুশ সংখ্যাগষ্ঠিরতা অর্জন করে। ফলে বৈধ ভিত্তি পায় বাঙালির স্বাধীনতার আকাক্সক্ষা। জাতির পিতা অনুধাবণ করেছিলেন স্বাধীনতা অর্জন ছাড়া বাঙালি জাতির ওপর অত্যাচার, নির্যাতন ও বঞ্চনার অবসান হবে না। তাই তিনি ১৯৭১ সালের ৭ই মার্চ ঐতিহাসিক রেসকোর্স ময়দানের জনসমুদ্রে দাঁড়িয়ে দৃপ্তকণ্ঠে ঘোষণা দেন, ‘এবারের সংগ্রাম আমাদের মুক্তির সংগ্রাম, এবারের সংগ্রাম স্বাধীনতার সংগ্রাম।’ মূলত সেদিন থেকেই শুরু হয় স্বাধীন রাষ্ট্র প্রতিষ্ঠার চূড়ান্ত অধ্যায়। বঙ্গবন্ধু শেখ মুজিবের ডাকে শুরু হয় অসহযোগ আন্দোলন। চলতে থাকে সশস্ত্র মুক্তিযুদ্ধের প্রস্তুতি।
    পাকিস্তানি হানাদারবাহিনী ২৫শে মার্চ কালরাতে নিরীহ ও নিরস্ত্র বাঙালির ওপর হত্যাযজ্ঞ চালায়। ২৬শে মার্চের প্রথম প্রহরে জাতির পিতা বাংলাদেশের স্বাধীনতা ঘোষণা করেন। শুরু হয় সশস্ত্র মুক্তিযুদ্ধ। বাংলাদেশের নির্বাচিত জনপ্রতিনিধিরা ১০ই এপ্রিল স্বাধীনতার ঘোষণাপত্র জারি করেন। বঙ্গবন্ধুকে রাষ্ট্রপতি, সৈয়দ নজরুল ইসলামকে উপরাষ্ট্রপতি এবং তাজউদ্দিন আহমদকে প্রধানমন্ত্রী  করে গণপ্রজাতন্ত্রী বাংলাদেশের প্রথম সরকার গঠন করা হয়। এই সরকার ১৭ই এপ্রিল মুজিবনগরে সমবেত হয়ে শপথ গ্রহণ করে এবং মুক্তিযুদ্ধ পরিচালনা করে। মুক্তিযুদ্ধ তীব্র থেকে তীব্রতর হয়। বীর মুক্তিযোদ্ধারা মিত্রবাহিনীর সহযোগিতায় পাকহানাদার এবং তাদের দোসর রাজাকার, আলবদর ও আলশামস বাহিনীকে পরাজিত করে ১৬ই ডিসেম্বর চূড়ান্ত বিজয় ছিনিয়ে আনেন। জাতি পায় স্বাধীন রাষ্ট্র, নিজস্ব পতাকা ও জাতীয় সংগীত। বাঙালি জাতির এই বীরত্ব ও দেশাত্মবোধ বিশ্বে নতুন ইতিহাস সৃষ্টি করে।

    বঙ্গবন্ধু যখন যুদ্ধবিধ্বস্ত বাংলাদেশকে ধ্বংস্তূপ থেকে টেনে তুলে সোনার বাংলা গড়ার সংগ্রামে নিয়োজিত, তখনই স্বাধীনতাবিরোধী যুদ্ধপরাধী চক্র জাতির পিতাকে সপরিবারে হত্যা করে। ১৯৭৫ সালের ১৫ই আগস্টের এই জঘন্য হত্যাকা-ের মধ্য দিয়ে তারা হত্যা, ক্যু ও ষড়যন্ত্রের রাজনীতি শুরু করে। ইনডেমনিটি অর্ডিনেন্স জারি করে বঙ্গবন্ধু হত্যার বিচারের পথ বন্ধ করে দেয়। মার্শাল ল’ জারির মাধ্যমে গণতন্ত্রকে হত্যা করে। অবৈধ সরকার গঠন করে। মুক্তিযুদ্ধের গৌরবোজ্জ্বল ইতিহাসকে বিকৃত করে। সংবিধানকে ক্ষত-বিক্ষত করে। সংবাদপত্রের স্বাধীনতা রুদ্ধ করে। পরবর্তীকালে বিএনপি জামাত সরকার এই ধারা অব্যাহত রাখে।
    সংগ্রাম ও আত্মত্যাগের বিনিময়ে ১৯৯৬ সালে গণতন্ত্র প্রতিষ্ঠা করেছি। আমাদের ১৯৯৬ থেকে ২০০১ সাল পর্যন্ত দায়িত্ব পালন জাতীয় ইতিহাসের গৌরবোজ্জ্বল সময় হিসেবে চিহ্নিত হয়ে থাকবে। বাঙালি জাতি দীর্ঘ আন্দোলন সংগ্রামের মধ্য দিয়ে ২০০৮ সালে গণতন্ত্র পুনঃপ্রতিষ্ঠা করে। বহু প্রতীক্ষিত নির্বাচনে জনগণ স্বাধীনতা যুদ্ধে নেতৃত্বদানকারী বাংলাদেশ আওয়ামী লীগের নেতৃত্বে মহাজোটকে বিপুলভাবে বিজয়ী করে। এই সরকার সংবিধানে পঞ্চদশ সংশোধনীর মাধ্যমে জনগণের ভোটের অধিকার নিশ্চিত করে। অবৈধভাবে ক্ষমতা দখলের পথ বন্ধ করে।
    ২০১৪ সালের ৫ই জানুয়ারির নির্বাচনে জনগণ পুনরায় বাংলাদেশ আওয়ামী লীগকে বিজয়ী করে সংবিধানের ধারাবাহিকতা রক্ষা করে। আমাদের সরকার নির্বাচনী প্রতিশ্রুতি অনুযায়ী দেশ ও জনগণের উন্নয়নে নিরলসভাবে কাজ করে যাচ্ছে।
    বর্তমান সরকার গত নয় বছরে দেশের সামষ্টিক অর্থনীতি, কৃষি, শিক্ষা, স্বাস্থ্য, যোগাযোগ, তথ্যপ্রযুক্তি, অবকাঠামো, বিদ্যুৎ, গ্রামীণ অর্থনীতির উন্নয়ন, কূটনৈতিক সাফল্য ও সহযোগিতা বৃদ্ধিসহ প্রতিটি সেক্টরে নির্বাচনী প্রতিশ্রুতি অনুযায়ী ব্যাপক উন্নয়ন সাধন করে দেশকে এগিয়ে নিয়ে যাচ্ছে। বাংলাদেশ নি¤œ মধ্যমআয়ের দেশে পরিণত হয়েছে। অর্থনৈতিক অগ্রগতির সূচকে বিশ্বের শীর্ষ ৫টি দেশের একটি আজ বাংলাদেশ।
    বাংলাদেশ আজ বিশ্বে উন্নয়নের রোল মডেল। আমাদের জিডিপি প্রবৃদ্ধি ৭ দশমিক ২৮ শতাংশ। দারিদ্র্যের হার ২২ শতাংশ হ্রাস পেয়েছে। মানুষের আয় ও ক্রয়ক্ষমতা বেড়েছে। আমাদের মাথাপিছু আয় ১ হাজার ৬১০ মার্কিন ডলার। রিজার্ভ ৩৩ বিলিয়ন ডলার ছাড়িয়েছে। দেড় কোটি মানুষের কর্মসংস্থান হয়েছে। ৫ কোটি মানুষ নি¤œআয়ের স্তর থেকে মধ্যমআয়ের স্তরে উন্নীত হয়েছে। খাদ্য উৎপাদন বৃদ্ধি পেয়ে দেশ খাদ্যে স্বয়ংসম্পূর্ণতা অর্জন করেছে। শিক্ষার্থীরা বিনামূল্যে বই পাচ্ছে। সাক্ষরতার হার ৭২ শতাংশের বেশি হয়েছে। দেশের ৮৩ ভাগ মানুষ বিদ্যুৎ সুবিধা পাচ্ছে। স্বাস্থ্যসেবা মানুষের দোরগোড়ায়। দরিদ্র মানুষ বিনামূল্যে ৩০ ধরণের ঔষধ পাচ্ছে। গড় আয়ু বেড়ে ৭১ বছর ৮ মাস। ডিজিটাল বাংলাদেশ প্রতিষ্ঠা সম্ভব হয়েছে। সারাদেশে সড়ক, মহাসড়ক, সেতু, ফ্লাইওভার, পাতাল সড়ক এলিভেটেড এক্সপ্রেসওয়ে, রেল, নৌ ও যোগাযোগ অবকাঠামোগত উন্নয়নে ব্যাপক কর্মসূচি বাস্তবায়ন করা হচ্ছে। মেট্রোরেল নির্মাণের কাজ শুরু হয়েছে। আমরা নিজস্ব অর্থায়নে পদ্মাসেতু নির্মাণ করছি। আইনের শাসন প্রতিষ্ঠা করে জাতির পিতার হত্যাকারীদের বিচার সম্পন্ন করেছি। জনগণকে দেওয়া ওয়াদা অনুযায়ী যুদ্ধপরাধীদের বিচারকার্য পরিচালনা করছি, বিচারের রায় কার্যকর করা হচ্ছে। যুদ্ধপরাধীদের বিচার অব্যাহত থাকবে।
জাতির পিতা বঙ্গবন্ধু শেখ মুজিবুর রহমানের ঐতিহাসিক ৭ মার্চের ভাষণ ইউনেস্কো কর্তৃক বিশ্ব প্রামাণ্য ঐতিহ্য (ডড়ৎষফ উড়পঁসবহঃধৎু ঐবৎরঃধমব) হিসেবে ইউনেস্কোর ওহঃবৎহধঃরড়হধষ গবসড়ৎু ড়ভ ঃযব ডড়ৎষফ জবমরংঃবৎ এ অন্তর্ভুক্ত হওয়ায় আজ সমগ্র দেশ ও জাতি গর্বিত।
    আমরা ভারতের সঙ্গে স্থলসীমানা সমস্যার শান্তিপূর্ণ সমাধান করেছি। মিয়ানমার ও ভারতের সঙ্গে সমুদ্রসীমারও শান্তিপূর্ণ সমাধান করেছি। আন্তর্জাতিক বিভিন্ন ফোরামে এবং বিশ্বশান্তি প্রতিষ্ঠায় বাংলাদেশ প্রশংসনীয় ভূমিকা পালন করে যাচ্ছে। সারা বিশ্ব আমাদের আর্থসামাজিক অগ্রগতির ভূয়সী প্রশংসা করছে। এই সব অর্জন সম্ভব হয়েছে সংবিধান ও গণতন্ত্রের ধারাবাহিকতা রক্ষার মাধ্যমে।
    আমরা ২০২১ সালের মধ্যে বাংলাদেশকে একটি ক্ষুধা ও দারিদ্র্যমুক্ত, শান্তিপূর্ণ মধ্যমআয়ের দেশ এবং ২০৪১ সালের আগেই বাংলাদেশকে উন্নত-সমৃদ্ধ দেশ হিসেবে গড়ে তোলার লক্ষ্য নিয়ে কাজ করছি। আমি আশা করি, রূপকল্প ২০২১ ও ২০৪১ বাস্তবায়নের মাধ্যমে আমরা জাতির পিতার স্বপ্নের সোনার বাংলাদেশ বিনির্মাণে সক্ষম হব।
    আসুন, মহান মুক্তিযুদ্ধের চেতনায় উদ্বুদ্ধ হয়ে আমরা ঐক্যবদ্ধভাবে দেশের উন্নয়ন ও গণতন্ত্রের ধারাবাহিকতা রক্ষা করি। দেশের কল্যাণে আত্মনিয়োগ করি। এটাই হোক ২০১৭ সালের বিজয় দিবসে আমাদের অঙ্গীকার।

 বাংলাদেশ চিরজীবী হোক।”
