Thailand keen on robust engagement with Bangladesh

Thailand, March 19 :

During a call by Bangladesh Ambassador to Thailand Saida Muna Tasneem  yesterday at the Thai Foreign Ministry,  General Tanasak Patimapragorn, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Thailand expressed his government's keen interest for a more active and robust engagement with Bangladesh towards strengthening diplomatic and economic relations between the two countries.  

            During the meeting, Bangladesh Ambassador reaffirmed Bangladesh’s commitment for a closer diplomatic, trade and investment partnership with Thailand, especially given the close proximity the two countries enjoy geographically sharing extended sea linkages on the Andaman Sea with a common neighbour, Myanmar in between. Referring to the prevailing trade imbalance between the two countries, Ambassador Tasneem requested the Thai Deputy Prime Minister that Thailand, reaching the higher Middle Income Country status, needs to accord DFQF market access to Bangladesh for select products including apparels, jute and jute goods, leather and leather products, medicines, sacks and bags, chemical products etc to offset the imbalance heavily tilted towards Thailand. The Ambassador also requested the Thai Deputy Prime Minister to encourage Thai investors to invest in Bangladesh especially in the tourism and hospitality, power generation, food processing, automobiles, machinery, electronics, shipbuilding, hospital and health services industry. 

 Ambassador Tasneem specifically highlighted need for new areas of cooperation specially finalization and early signing between the two countries of bilateral cooperation instruments including on exemption of visa for diplomatic and official passports, cooperation of employment of Bangladeshi workers in Thailand, technical cooperation on fisheries and livestock and  between Bangladesh Accreditation Board and the Thai Industrial Standards Institute. Referring to her recent calls on the Thai Ministers of ICT, Tourism and Sports and Industry over the past one month, the Ambassador stressed on exploring new institutional cooperation between the two countries during her tenure, specially on tourism and culture cooperation, defense and security including on UN peacekeeping and industrial and technological exchanges between public and private sectors of the two countries.

Ambassador Tasneem also underscored the importance of holding the first-ever meeting of the Foreign Office Consultations at the level of Foreign Secretaries of the two countries in Dhaka early this year as agreed in the Joint Statement of 2012 signed during the visit of former Thai PM to Dhaka. This would pave the way for the much awaited 7^th Joint Commission Meeting at the Foreign Ministers level in Dhaka in late 2015 and the Joint Trade Council Meeting between the two Commerce Ministers.

The Thai Deputy Prime Minister echoed the views of the Ambassador and opined that the first-ever Foreign Office Consultations could be held in early May this year and assured the Ambassador of positive consideration by the Thai government on all her proposals including visa exemption for diplomatic and official passports and conclusion of new agreements in the areas of labour employment, Standards and fisheries and livestocks. The Thai DPM also hoped that during the tenure of the Ambassador, bilateral relations between Bangladesh and Thailand would reach to newer heights with visible outcomes. He assured all out cooperation to the Ambassador.

Bangladesh requires support from friends for

broader dialogue within global supply chains

                                         -- Foreign Minister

Dhaka, March 19 :

            ‘The industry and the government resolved to bring in changes - whatever might be necessary. Yet, some important constraints remain for which Bangladesh requires support from friends and partners’, Foreign Minister Abul Hassan Mahmood Ali said this at the High level Conference on RMG Industry and beyond: Bangladesh - FRAMING THE FUTURE, held at the initiative of the Danish Government at a Hotel in Dhaka today.

            The Foreign Minister mentioned that contemporary Bangladesh RMG and textile sector is in the throes of transformation. In the process, our younger workforce has demonstrated their skills, adaptability and diligence. Our entrepreneurs has weathered challenges and ventured into new lands and areas.

            Bangladesh counts on support from its friends – at bilateral and global levels – towards a broader dialogue with all stakeholders within global supply chain(s). As norms, practices or, guidelines are considered, Bangladesh would stress that those should be geared towards creating a truly level playing field, Mahmood Ali observed.

            The Minister thanked Denmark for reposing its confidence and trust in Bangladesh, in its difficult times. He also reassures that Bangladesh engages in global conversations with all global stakeholders at home and abroad in full trust and sincerity, in mutually beneficial and responsible manner.

            Mogens Jensen, Danish Minister for Trade & Development Cooperation and Bangladesh State Minister for Labour and Employment Mujibul Haque Chunnu also spoke in the first session of conference. In the third and concluding session Commerce Minister Tofail Ahmed delivered his speech.

Danish Minister calls on Foreign Minister

            On the sidelines of the conference the visiting Danish Minister Mogens Jensen called on the Foreign Minister A H Mahmood Ali in the same venue.

            During the call on the Danish Minister thanked the Foreign Minister for his presence in the conference. He said that Denmark would like to expand the existing cooperative relations between the two countries.

            Upon query from the Danish Minister, Mahmood Ali said that all the minority communities are safe during the Awami League government.  In response to a reference made by the Danish Minister on the political situation in Bangladesh, the Foreign Minister informed that what 20-party allies have been doing since January 6 this year are not at all political activities or movements. He said that these are purely acts of violence and terror that killed innocent common people.  The situation has come back to almost normalcy and would be absolutely normal very soon, the Foreign Minister added. He further mentioned that violence has no place in any democratic political movement to which the Danish Minister expressed his agreement.

    মৎস্য ও প্রাণিসম্পদ মন্ত্রী মোহাম্মদ ছায়েদুল হক বলেছেন,বঙ্গবন্ধুর স্বপ্নের সোনার বাংলা বাস্তবরূপ লাভ করেছে। বঙ্গবন্ধু শোষণহীন, সুখী সমৃদ্ধ সোনার বাংলার স্বপ্ন দেখেছেন। বঙ্গবন্ধু বলেছিলেন, স্বাধীন বাংলাদেশে কোনো মানুষ একবেলাও না খেয়ে থাকবেনা, বঙ্গবন্ধুর সে স্বপ্ন পূরণ হয়েছে। বাংলাদেশ আজ খাদ্যে স¦য়ংসম্পূর্ণ এবং এদেশের অর্থনীতি আজ শক্ত ভিতের ওপর দাঁড়িয়েছে।
    মন্ত্রী আজ ঢাকায় মৎস্য অধিদপ্তর সম্মেলন কক্ষে জাতির পিতা বঙ্গবন্ধু শেখ মুজিবুর রহমানের জন্মদিবস ও জাতীয় শিশুদিবস উপলক্ষে এক আলোচনাসভায় প্রধান অতিথির বক্তৃতায় এসব কথা বলেন।
    ছায়েদুল হক বলেন, বঙ্গবন্ধুর ৬৬ সালের ৬ দফা ছিল বাঙালির গণতান্ত্রিক এবং অর্থনৈতিক মুক্তির দফা। তিনি বাংলার গরিব দুঃখী মেহনতি মানুষের মুখে হাঁসি ফোটানোর জন্য দীর্ঘ ২৩ বছর সংগ্রাম করেছেন। বঙ্গবন্ধুর ডাকে ৩০ লাখ শহিদের রক্তের বিনিময়ে অর্জিত হয়েছে বাংলার স্বাধীনতা। তিনি প্রশ্ন রাখেন, স্বাধীনতা সংগ্রামের মহানায়ক, যিনি এদেশের স্বাধীনতা এনে দিলেন, তাঁর কি অপরাধ ছিল যে তাকে খুন হতে হলো ?
    অনুষ্ঠানে বিশেষ অতিথি মৎস্য ও প্রাণিসম্পদ প্রতিমন্ত্রী নারায়ণ চন্দ্র চন্দ বলেন, ভবিষ্যৎ প্রজন্মকে বঙ্গবন্ধুর আদর্শে এবং মুক্তিযুদ্ধের চেতনায় উদ্বুদ্ধ করতে হবে। বঙ্গবন্ধুর চেতনায় উদ্বুদ্ধ করলে আজকের শিশুরাই উন্নত দেশ গঠনে অবদান রাখবে। তিনি বলেন, সকলকে মিলে দেশকে এগিয়ে নিতে হবে। তাহলে, ২০২১ সালে দেশ মধ্যমআয়ের দেশ হিসেবে প্রতিষ্ঠা লাভ করবে।
    মৎস্য অধিদপ্তরের মহাপরিচালক সৈয়দ আরিফ আজাদের সভাপতিত্বে কৃষিবিদ ইনস্টিটিউটে’র মহাসচিব মোঃ মোবারক আলী এবং যুগ্মসচিব মোঃ আনিছুর রহমান বক্তৃতা করেন।
    পরে মন্ত্রী চিত্রাঙ্কন প্রতিযোগিতায় বিজয়ী শিশুদের মাঝে পুরস্কার বিতরণ করেন।

গত ৩ মার্চ তারিখের স্থগিতকৃত এসএসসি ও সমমানের পরীক্ষা আগামীকাল ২০ মার্চ শুক্রবার সকাল ৯টায় অনুষ্ঠিত হবে। আগামীকালের এসএসসি’র বিষয়গুলো হলো-জীববিজ্ঞান (তত্ত্বীয়) ও অর্থনীতি। দাখিলের বিষয়গুলো হলো- ইসলামের ইতিহাস ও জীববিজ্ঞান (তত্ত্বীয়)।

৪ মার্চ তারিখের স্থগিতকৃত এসএসসি ও সমমানের পরীক্ষা আগামী ২১ মার্চ শনিবার সকাল ১০টায় এবং বিকাল ২টায় অনুষ্ঠিত হবে। ঐদিনের এসএসসি’র সকালের বিষয়গুলো হলো- বাংলাভাষা ও সাহিত্য, ইংরেজি ভাষা ও সাহিত্য, গার্হস্থ্য বিজ্ঞান (তত্ত্বীয়), গার্হস্থ্য অর্থনীতি (তত্ত্বীয়), কৃষি শিক্ষা (তত্ত্বীয়) এবং সংগীত (তত্ত্বীয়)। এসএসসি’র বিকালের বিষয়সমূহ হলো- আরবি, সংস্কৃত, পালি, কর্মমুখি শিক্ষা (তত্ত্বীয়), কম্পিউটার শিক্ষা (তত্ত্বীয়), শারীরিক শিক্ষা ও ক্রীড়া (তত্ত্বীয়), বেসিক ট্রেড (তত্ত্বীয়) এবং চারু ও কারুকলা (তত্ত্বীয়)।

দাখিল পরীক্ষা শুধু সকালে অনুষ্ঠিত হবে। বিষয়গুলো হলো- পৌরনীতি, মান্তিক, কৃষি শিক্ষা (তত্ত্বীয়), গার্হস্থ্য অর্থনীতি (তত্ত্বীয়), উর্দু, ফার্সি এবং কম্পিউটার শিক্ষা (তত্ত্বীয়)।

৮, ১০ ও ১১ মার্চের স্থগিতকৃত পরীক্ষাগুলোর সময়সূচি পরে জানানো হবে।

মোবাইল সেক্টরে করের ভূমিকা বিষয়ক গবেষণা প্রতিবেদন উপস্থাপন

    ডাক, টেলিযোগাযোগ ও তথ্যপ্রযুক্তি মন্ত্রণালয় সম্পর্কিত স্থায়ী কমিটির সভাপতি ইমরান আহমদের উপস্থিতিতে আজ ঢাকায় আগারগাঁওয়ের আইসিটি বিভাগের সম্মেলনকক্ষে এঝগঅ এর পক্ষ থেকে উরমরঃধষ ওহপষঁংরড়হ ধহফ গড়নরষব ঝবপঃড়ৎ ঞধীধঃরড়হ রহ ইধহমষধফবংয এর ওপর গবেষণা প্রতিবেদন উপস্থাপন করা হয়। কমিটির সদস্য হোসনে আরা লুৎফা ডালিয়া এ সময় উপস্থিত ছিলেন।

    এঝগঅ এবং উবষড়রঃঃব এর যৌথ উদ্যোগে ১১টি দেশের সমন্বয়ে গড়নরষব                   ঞবষবপড়সসঁহরপধঃরড়হ এর ওপর একটি গবেষণা পরিচালনা করে। বাংলাদেশ এর মধ্যে অন্যতম। গবেষণার একটি প্রতিবেদন সংসদীয় কমিটির সামনে উপস্থাপন করা হয়।

    প্রতিবেদনে উল্লেখ করা হয়, উরমরঃধষ ইধহমষধফবংয বিনির্মাণে ঞবষবপড়সসঁহরপধঃরড়হ ঝবপঃড়ৎ অন্যতম। এউচ বর্ধনে ঞবষবপড়সসঁহরপধঃরড়হ ঝবপঃড়ৎ গুরুত্বপূর্ণ ভূমিকা রাখতে পারবে।

    প্রতিবেদনে বাংলাদেশ টেলিকমিউনিকেশনে ঞধীধঃরড়হ চড়ষরপু  এর বিভিন্ন দিক তুলে ধরা হয়। প্রতিবেদনে উল্লেখ করা হয়, গড়নরষব ঝবপঃড়ৎ এ ঞধীধঃরড়হ চড়ষরপু কে যদি সুসংহত করা হয় তবে বাংলাদেশে এক্ষেত্রে বিনিয়োগ ত্বরান্বিত হবে।   

    বক্তব্য উপস্থাপনের সময় বিটিআরসি’র চেয়ারম্যান, ডাক ও টেলিযোগাযোগ বিভাগের সচিব, জাতীয় সংসদ সচিবালয়ের ঊর্ধ্বতন কর্মকর্তাসহ সংশ্লিষ্ট বিশেষজ্ঞগণ উপস্থিত ছিলেন।

    নৌপরিবহণ মন্ত্রী শাজাহান খান বলেছেন, সন্ত্রাস ও নাশকতা রোধে দলমতনির্বিশেষে সবাইকে জাতীয় চেতনায় ঐক্যবদ্ধ হতে হবে। সন্ত্রাসীদের ভয়ে ভীত না হয়ে জীবনযাত্রা স্বাভাবিক রাখতে হবে।  
    মন্ত্রী আজ খুলনা সার্কিট হাউসে নাশকতা রোধ ও সড়কপথে সুষ্ঠুভাবে নিরাপদে যানবাহন চলাচলের লক্ষ্যে মতবিনিময়সভায় প্রধান অতিথির বক্তৃতায় একথা বলেন।
মন্ত্রী বলেন, আগামী জুলাই থেকে মাওয়া ঘাটকে টোল ফ্রি করার বিষয়ে সরকারের পরিকল্পনা রয়েছে।  মানুষের জীবনযাত্রা স্বাভাবিক রাখতে পরিবহণখাতের মালিক-শ্রমিকেরা  জীবন বাজি রেখে গাড়ি চলাচল অব্যাহত রেখেছেন যা প্রশংসনীয়। কিন্তু সন্ত্রাসীদের নাশকতায় ইতোমধ্যে অনেকেই প্রাণ দিয়েছেন। নাশকতায় ক্ষতিগ্রস্ত এসব ব্যক্তিদের ক্ষতিপূরণ প্রদানে সরকার আন্তরিক। তিনি আরো বলেন, সরকার জনগণের জানমালের নিরাপত্তাবিধানে বদ্ধপরিকর। সড়কপথে যান চলাচল স্বাভাবিক রাখতে প্রশাসনের সাহসী ভূমিকা অব্যাহত রাখতে হবে। একইসাথে নাশকতামূলক কর্মকা- প্রতিহত করতে জনগণকে সচেতন থাকতে হবে। তিনি মাদ্রাসা শিক্ষক এবং ইমামদেরকে খুতবায় সন্ত্রাসের বিরুদ্ধে জনগণকে উদ্বুদ্ধ করার আহ্বান জানান।
    খুলনার জেলা প্রশাসক মোঃ মোস্তফা কামালের সভাপতিত্বে মতবিনিময়সভায় সংসদ সদস্য মুহাম্মদ মিজানুর রহমান, খুলনা জেলা পরিষদ প্রশাসক শেখ হারুনুর রশীদ, মুক্তিযোদ্ধা কাউন্সিল কমা-ের সহসভাপতি ইসমত কাদির গামা, বাংলাদেশ পরিবহণ শ্রমিক ফেডারেশনের সাধারণ সম্পাদক ওসমান আলী, কেএমপি’র অতিরিক্ত পুলিশ কমিশনার মোঃ মাহবুব হাকিম, খুলনা পুলিশ সুপার, সাতক্ষীরা ও বাগেরহাটের জেলা প্রশাসক ও পুলিশ সুপার এবং খুলনা-বাগেরহাট ও সাতক্ষীরার সড়ক পরিবহণ মালিক-শ্রমিক, কর্মচারী, মুক্তিযোদ্ধাসহ বিভিন্ন পেশাজীবী সংগঠনের নেতৃবৃন্দ উপস্থিত ছিলেন।

    আটককৃত কাঠের আনুমানিক মূল্য ৪২ লাখ টাকা। জব্দকৃত কাঠ ডাংমারী ফরেস্ট অফিস কর্তৃপক্ষের নিকট আইনানুগ ব্যবস্থা গ্রহণের জন্য হস্তান্তর করা হয়েছে।

টেকনিক্যাল স্কুল এন্ড কলেজে ৩২টি পুরাতন গাড়ি দেয়া হচ্ছে

আগামী ২৮ মার্চ দেশের ৩২টি টেকনিক্যাল স্কুল এন্ড কলেজের ক্লাস ও প্রশিক্ষণ কাজে ব্যবহারের জন্য ৩২টি আধুনিক অথচ পুরাতন গাড়ি হস্তান্তর করা হবে।

সারাদেশে সরকারি ৪৯টি পলিটেকনিক, ৬৪টি টেকনিক্যাল স্কুল এন্ড কলেজ এবং ৩টি ইঞ্জিনিয়ারিং কলেজ আছে। এসব প্রতিষ্ঠানে গাড়ি মেরামত, রক্ষণাবেক্ষণ, ড্রাইভিং ও আনুষঙ্গিক কোর্স অন্তর্ভুক্ত আছে। এসব প্রতিষ্ঠানের তাত্ত্বিক ও ব্যবহারিক ক্লাস পরিচালনায় আধুনিক অথচ পুরাতন গাড়িগুলো ফলপ্রসূ অবদান রাখবে।

কারিগরি শিক্ষা অধিদপ্তরের  এক প্রস্তাবে সাড়া দিয়ে শিক্ষা মন্ত্রণালয় আজ প্রথম পর্যায়ে ৩২টি পুরাতন জিপগাড়ি ৩২টি টেকনিক্যাল স্কুল এন্ড কলেজে হস্তান্তরের সিদ্ধান্ত গ্রহণ করেছে। আগামী ২৮ মার্চ টিকিউআই প্রকল্পের অধীনে ৩২টি জেলা শিক্ষা অফিসকে ৩২টি নতুন জিপগাড়ি প্রদান করা হবে। একইদিনে এসব জেলা অফিসে ব্যবহৃত ৩২টি পুরাতন জিপগাড়ি ৩২টি টেকনিক্যাল স্কুল এন্ড কলেজ কর্তৃপক্ষের কাছে হস্তান্তর করা হবে।

    বাংলাদেশ আওয়ামী স্বেচ্ছাসেবক লীগের কেন্দ্রীয় কমিটির সহসভাপতি নির্মল চ্যাটার্জীর মাতা কল্পনা চ্যাটার্জী (৭৩) গতরাতে রাজধানীর একটি হাসপাতালে পরলোকগমন করেন। মৃত্যুকালে তিনি ২ ছেলে, ২ মেয়ে, নাতি নাতনি, আত্মীয়স্বজনসহ অসংখ্য গুণগ্রাহী রেখে গেছেন।
    যুব ও ক্রীড়া প্রতিমন্ত্রী বীরেন শিকদার কল্পনা চ্যাটার্জীর পরলোকগমনে গভীর শোক প্রকাশ করেছেন। এক শোকবার্তায় প্রতিমন্ত্রী বিদেহী আত্মার শান্তি কামনা করে শোকসন্তপ্ত পরিবারের সদস্যদের প্রতি সমবেদনা জানান।

    যুক্তরাষ্ট্রে নিযুক্ত বাংলাদেশের রাষ্ট্রদূত মোহাম্মদ জিয়াউদ্দিন গতকাল (১৮ মার্চ) হাউজ অব রিপ্রেজেনটেটিভের রিপাবলিকান মেজরিটি লিডার কংগ্রেসম্যান কেভিন ম্যাককারথির (কবারহ গপঈধৎঃযু) সাথে তার ক্যাপিটাল হিলস্থ কার্যালয়ে সাক্ষাৎ করেন।
    বাংলাদেশের বর্তমান রাজনৈতিক পরিস্থিতি নিয়ে আলাপকালে রাষ্ট্রদূত বলেন যে, ১০ম সংসদীয় নির্বাচনের এক বছর পূর্তিতে বিএনপি ও তার মিত্র জামায়াতে ইসলামী অবিরত অবরোধ ও হরতালের ডাক দিয়ে সন্ত্রাসী কর্মকা-, বোমা বিস্ফোরণ ও যানবাহনে অগ্নিকা-ের মাধ্যমে নিরাপরাধ মানুষ হত্যা করে যাচ্ছে। সাধারণ জনগণ বিএনপি ও তার মিত্রদের ধ্বংসাত্মক কার্যক্রম ও রাজনৈতিক কর্মসূচিতে সাড়া দেয়নি।
    রাষ্ট্রদূত জানান যে, প্রধানমন্ত্রীর নেতৃত্বে বর্তমান সরকার ধর্মীয় উগ্রবাদ ও সন্ত্রাসের বিরুদ্ধে দৃঢ় অবস্থান নিয়েছে। এই মুহুর্তে সংগ্রাম কার্যত উগ্রবাদী, যুদ্ধাপরাধী ও স্বাধীনতার বিপক্ষের শক্তির বিরুদ্ধে।
    রাষ্ট্রদূত কংগ্রেসম্যানকে বাংলাদেশে নারীর ক্ষমতায়ন সম্পর্কে অবহিত করে বলেন যে, প্রধানমন্ত্রী শেখ হাসিনার নেতৃত্বে বর্তমান সরকার নারীবান্ধব নীতি গ্রহণের মাধ্যমে নারীদেরকে দেশের মূল ধারায় নিয়ে আসতে সক্ষম হয়েছে। তিনি যুক্তরাষ্ট্রের বাজারে স্বল্পোন্নত দেশ হিসেবে বাংলাদেশি পণ্যের শুল্ক ও কোটামুক্ত প্রবেশাধিকার প্রদানের জন্য অনুরোধ জানান।   
    কংগ্রেসম্যান ম্যাককারথি বাংলাদেশের সাম্প্রতিক রাজনৈতিক পরিস্থিতির বিষয়ে অবহিত করার জন্য রাষ্ট্রদূতকে ধন্যবাদ জ্ঞাপন করেন। তিনি শুল্ক ও কোটামুক্ত পণ্যের প্রবেশাধিকারের বিষয়টি যথাযথ কর্তৃপক্ষের সাথে আলোচনা  করবেন বলে আশ^াস দেন। কংগ্রেসম্যান ম্যাককারথি রাষ্ট্রদূত জিয়াউদ্দিনকে তার কার্যকালীন সময়ে সম্ভাব্য সকল সহায়তার আশ^াস প্রদান করেন।
    বাংলাদেশ দূতাবাসের কাউন্সিলর তৌফিক হাসান বৈঠকে উপস্থিত ছিলেন।
