National Security Adviser of Myanmar met Bangladesh Foreign Minister

 

Dhaka, 3 July:

 

 

National Security Adviser of Myanmar U Thaung Tun met the Foreign Minister A.H Mahmood Ali, last evening at the State Guest House Padma. Foreign Secretary Md. Shahidul Haque and Bangladesh Ambassador to Myanmar Sufiur Rahman were present at the meeting. U Thaung Tun is visiting Bangladesh at the invitation of Bangladesh Foreign Minister from 2-4 July.

 

 

            During the meeting, the National Security Adviser expressed desire of the government of Myanmar to further develop bilateral relations with Bangladesh. He expressed the interest of Myanmar to address the differences between the two neighbours through discussion. He put emphasis on the need for enhancing cooperation between the two countries in the security sector and expressed happiness on recently held meetings among defence and border forces. He opined that economic development could help reduce tension among the two communities in Rakhine and contribute to resolution of problems.  

 

            Foreign Minister Mahmood Ali reiterated Bangladesh’s desire for developing a relationship of trust and mutual benefit with the neighbor and stressed on the need for engaging in frank discussion to build convergence where there are difference of opinion. He asserted that Bangladesh maintains zero tolerance to any activity targeted against neighbours by non-state actors and never allows her territory to be used for any activity inimical to the interest of Myanmar. The Foreign Minister assured continuation of assistance in security stabilization in bordering areas.

 

 

 Bangladesh Foreign Minister highlighted some aspects of sub-regional cooperation in South Asia and viewed that Bangladesh and Myanmar could derive immense benefit from such cooperation regionally and under BIMSTEC. He reiterated Bangladesh’s willingness to deepen cooperation in sectoral areas and expected positive response from Myanmar to Bangladesh’s proposals on energy and transport connectivity.

 

 

       Foreign Minister Mahmood Ali recollected how the two countries engaged in the past to repatriate Myanmar refugees back to Rakhine. Myanmar NSA agreed on the importance of commencing bilateral discussion on repatriation of Myanmar residents from Bangladesh.

করুণাময় গোস্বামীর প্রতি আওয়ামী লীগের শ্রদ্ধা

আজ কেন্দ্রীয় শহিদ মিনারে সদ্যপ্রয়াত বরেণ্য সংগীতজ্ঞ ও শিক্ষাবিদ ড. করুণাময় গোস্বামীর প্রতি বাংলাদেশ আওয়ামী লীগের পক্ষ থেকে শ্রদ্ধা জানান সড়ক পরিবহণ ও সেতুমন্ত্রী এবং বাংলাদেশ আওয়ামী লীগের সাধারণ সম্পাদক ওবায়দুল কাদের।

সংস্কৃতি বিষয়ক মন্ত্রী আসাদুজ্জামান নূরসহ বাংলাদেশ আওয়ামী লীগের কেন্দ্রীয় নেতৃবৃন্দ এসময় উপস্থিত ছিলেন। 

শহিদ মিনারে এ লক্ষ্যে সমবেত সাংবাদিকদের এক প্রশ্নের জবাবে সেতুমন্ত্রী বলেন, ড. করুণাময় গোস্বামী ছিলেন সংগীত ও সংস্কৃতির বটবৃক্ষ। তাঁর চলে যাওয়া জাতির জন্য অপূরণীয় ক্ষতি।

পরে মন্ত্রী নগরীর স্কয়ার হাসপাতালে চিকিৎসাধীন ১৯৭১ সালে মুক্তিযুদ্ধকালীন ৯নং সেক্টরের সাব-সেক্টর কমান্ডার মেজর (অব.) জিয়া উদ্দিন-কে দেখতে যান।

মন্ত্রী চিকিৎসাধীন জিয়া উদ্দিনের চিকিৎসার খোঁজখবর নেন এবং তাঁর দ্রুত আরোগ্য কামনা করেন।

পার্বত্য চট্টগ্রাম বিষয়ক প্রতিমন্ত্রী বীর বাহাদুর উ শৈ সিং বলেছেন, সরকার পার্বত্য চট্টগ্রামে প্রাথমিক, মাধ্যমিক ও উচ্চ শিক্ষা বিস্তারে অত্যন্ত আন্তরিক। সাধারণ শিক্ষার পাশাপাশি কারিগরি শিক্ষা প্রসারে নানামুখী পদক্ষেপ গ্রহণ করেছে ফলে তথ্যপ্রযুক্তি নির্ভর কর্মমুখী শিক্ষার মাধ্যমে পার্বত্য চট্টগ্রামের শিক্ষার্থীরা স্বাবলম্বী হয়ে জনসম্পদে পরিণত হচ্ছে। 

প্রতিমন্ত্রী গত ২ জুলাই বান্দরবান কালেক্টরেট স্কুল এন্ড কলেজের বার্ষিক ক্রীড়া ও সাংস্কৃতিক প্রতিযোগিতায় বিজয়ীদের মাঝে পুরস্কার বিতরণ অনুষ্ঠানে প্রধান অতিথির বক্তৃতায় এসব কথা বলেন।

তিনি আরো বলেন, লেখাপড়ার পাশাপাশি মানসিক ও শারীরিক উৎকর্ষতা সাধনে খেলাধুলা ও সংস্কৃতি চর্চার বিকল্প নেই। সাম্প্রদায়িক সম্প্রীতি নির্ভর সমাজ গঠনে এ উপাদানসমূহ সহায়ক নিয়ামক হিসেবে কাজ করে বলে তিনি উল্লেখ করেন।

জেলা প্রশাসক দিলীপ কুমার বণিকের সভাপতিত্বে অন্যান্যের মধ্যে বান্দরবান সরকারি কলেজের অধ্যক্ষ সুকুমার দত্ত, পুলিশ সুপার সঞ্জিত কুমার রায়, বান্দরবান সদর উপজেলা পরিষদ চেয়ারম্যান আব্দুল কুদ্দুছ, পার্বত্য চট্টগ্রাম আঞ্চলিক পরিষদের সদস্য শফিকুর রহমান ও কাজল কান্তি দাশ এবং বান্দরবান পার্বত্য জেলা পরিষদের সদস্য লক্ষী পদ দাশ বক্তব্য রাখেন।
