FM Denounces Suicide Attack in Kuwait

 

Dhaka, June 27 :

 

            Foreign Minister A H Mahmood Ali has denounced suicide bomber attack at a Kuwaiti Mosque. The Foreign Minister in his message sent to Kuwaiti First Deputy Prime Minister and  Minister for Foreign Affairs Sheikh Sabah Al-Khalid Al-Sabah expressed deep shock at the loss of lives at the cowardly attack. The full text of the message in given below:

 

            "It is a matter of great concern and worry that 27 people were killed and 277 were wounded when a suicide bomber attacked a mosque in Kuwait City on 26 June. We express our deep condolences and sympathies to the victims who were killed or injured due to the suicide bomb attack.  What is more shocking and alarming is that this happened in the holy month of Ramadan, the month of rahmat and forgiveness. While denouncing the cowardly attacks in the strongest form, we express our solidarity with the brotherly people and the Government of the State of Kuwait during their time of difficulty and pray that they will be successful in overcoming this tragedy. 

 

            At this point, I would like to stress that any such terrorist activity is a blow against peace, humanity and all religious values. I take this opportunity to reiterate that Bangladesh denounces terrorism in all its forms and manifestations and reaffirm that our Government has been following and will follow a "zero tolerance" policy towards terrorism. I express my Government’s firm determination to continue to work together with the State of Kuwait and the world community to fight against terrorism.

 

            I wish you good health, long life and happiness and the brotherly people of Kuwait continued peace, progress and prosperity."

Suicide Attack at a Kuwaiti Mosque

PM Expresses Shock at the Loss of Lives

 

Dhaka, June 27 :

 

            Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has expressed deep shock at the loss of lives in suicide bomber attack at a Kuwaiti  mosque. The full text of the message sent to her Kuwaiti counterpart  Sheikh Jaber Al-Mubarak Al-Hamad Al Sabah yesterday is given below :

 

            "It is a matter of deep sorrow and concern that 27 people were killed and 277 wounded when a suicide bomber attacked a mosque in Kuwait City on 26 June. It is extremely shocking that the bomber snuck into the Imam Al-Sadiq Mosque near Kuwait's famous Al-Sawaber district in Sharq at the end of the busy Jumma prayer during the Holy month of Ramadan, when a suicide bomber blew himself up inside the mosque. I express my deepest condolences and heartfelt sympathies to Your Highness and through you to the family members of the victims as well as all the brotherly people of Kuwait for this heinous and cowardly incident.

 

            The people of Bangladesh join me in expressing their solidarity in your fight against terrorism in the country and beyond.  I take this opportunity to reiterate that Bangladesh denounces terrorism in all its forms and manifestations and reaffirm our Government’s commitment to work together with Kuwait and the world community to fight against this menace.

President Condemns Suicide Attack at a Kuwaiti Mosque

            President Md Abdul Hamid condemned the suicide bomber attack at a mosque in Kuwait city that killed 27 and wounded 277 people. The full text of the message sent to Kuwaiti Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah yesterday is given below:

 

            "I am shocked to learn about the tragic death of 27 people, who were killed and 277 wounded when a suicide bomber attacked a mosque in Kuwait City on 26 June. I strongly condemn the cowardly and heinous terrorist attack killing innocent people. We pray to Almighty Allah that He gives our Kuwaiti brethren the strength and fortitude to win their fight against such heinous crimes.

 

            I take this opportunity to reiterate our solidarity with the brotherly people and the Government of the State of Kuwait. Bangladesh is committed to continue to work together with Kuwait and the world community to fight against terrorism.

 

            I wish you good health, long life and happiness, and the brotherly people of the State of Kuwait continued peace, progress and prosperity."

Ambassador Mohammad Ziauddin Meets Congressman Ami Bera

 

Washington, June 27 :

 

            Bangladesh Ambassador to the United States Mohammad Ziauddin met the Congressman Ami Bera at the Capitol Hill in Washington yesterday.

 

            At the beginning of the discussion Congressman Ami Bera wanted to know about the Bangladesh-India bilateral relations in the wake of Prime Minister Modi’s recent visit to Bangladesh. In this trail, Ambassador Ziauddin said that India is Bangladesh’s time tested friend, gave shelter to 10 million helpless Bangladeshi inside their territory in 1971 and finally shred blood for the independence of Bangladesh.

 

            Bangladesh Ambassador informed that during Modi’s visit long pending land boundary issue with India has been fully resolved. Both the Prime Ministers reaffirmed their unequivocal and uncompromising position against extremism and terrorism in all forms and manifestations and vowed that their respective territories would not be used for any activity inimical to the other.

 

            On the political front, Bangladesh Ambassador briefed the Congressman about the brutal killing of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibar Rahman with his 18 family members in 1975, indemnity to the killers, rehabilitation and rewarding the anti-liberation forces, creation of religion based political parties, consecutive military rules and the recent arson, killings and violence by the BNP and Jamaat-i-Islami. Ambassador Ziauddin said that the present struggle of the government is against the extremists, perpetrators of the crimes against humanity and the anti-liberation forces in Bangladesh.

 

            Responding to the Congressman Ambassador Ziauddin briefed him on the development of workers' safety and workers right in Bangladesh. Ambassador said that significant progress has already been made in this sector. The Government is steadfast to ensure the labour rights and safety in RMG sector to make the industry productive and sustainable.

 

            A first-generation American, democrat Congressman Ami Bera thanked the Ambassador for the detail briefings on Bangladesh.

IPU Secretary General calls on Foreign Minister

 

Dhaka, June 27 :

 

            Martin Chungong, Secretary General, Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) called on Abul Hassan Mahmood Ali, Foreign Minister at his office at the National Parliament in Dhaka today.  

 

            During the call on Bangladesh Foreign Minister said “We have made it a foreign policy priority to facilitate the interaction of our Parliament Members with their counterparts from around the world”.

 

            The Bangladesh Foreign Minister reiterated that Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has been leading from the front in Bangladesh’s sustained efforts towards women’s empowerment. He further underscored the need to addressing some of the key outstanding challenges concerning maternal malnutrition, child marriage, unskilled birth attendance and gender disparity in tertiary education through IPU’s meaningful cooperation.

 

            The IPU Secretary General praised Bangladesh’s continued constructive engagement with IPU. Mentioning successful election of Saber Hossain Chowdhury, MP as the President of IPU Assembly, he said that it would help taking the relationship between Bangladesh and IPU to new heights. 

 

            The IPU Secretary General further briefed the Foreign Minister about some of the recent initiatives of IPU, including the Cooperation Agreement between UN, parliaments and IPU, to further promote and showcase Parliament’s role in addressing certain specific development challenges.

 

            The Foreign Minister particularly appreciated IPU’s current focus on enhancing the Parliaments’ role in designing and implementing the post-2015 Development Agenda including SDGs.

 

            The IPU Secretary General sought Bangladesh’s support on IPU’s initiative during the adoption of the post-2015 Development Agenda at the 70^th UN General Assembly session in New York in September. In response, the Foreign Minister assured him to extend all possible support from Bangladesh in this regard.

 

            Mr. Chungong is currently on his maiden visit to Bangladesh.

FM Condemns Terrorist Attack in France

Dhaka, June 27 :

            Foreign Minister A H Mahmood Ali has condemned terrorist attack in the French City of Lyon.

            The Foreign Minister condemned the attack in a message sent to his French Counterpart Laurent Fabius. The full text of the message is given below:

            "I am shocked to learn about the cowardly terrorist attack at a gas factory near the city of Lyon in France resulting in beheading of a person and an explosion. I strongly condemn this terror attack and express our deep condolence and sympathy to you and the friendly people of France and especially to the members of the bereaved family.

            I recall our meeting at your office in Paris four days ago where we reaffirmed our commitment to working together in the fight against terrorism and violent extremism. A terrorist attack in France within three days only justify our joining hands together with greater strength to fight this absolutely violent insanity against human civilization.

 

            I assure you once again of our all out efforts and support in jointly fighting the terrorists and ensuring peace and stability in the world."

ইন্টারন্যাশনাল মেরিটাইম অর্গানাইজেশনের (আইএমও) ১১৪তম কাউন্সিল অধিবেশনে যোগদানের লক্ষ্যে নৌপরিবহণ মন্ত্রী শাজাহান খান আজ সকালে লন্ডনের উদ্দেশে ঢাকা ত্যাগ করেছেন।  

মন্ত্রী চার সদস্যের একটি প্রতিনিধিদলের নেতৃত্ব দিচ্ছেন। প্রতিনিধিদলে রয়েছেন- সমুদ্র পরিবহণ অধিদপ্তরের মহাপরিচালক কমডোর এম জাকিউর রহমান ভূইয়া এবং সমুদ্র পরিবহণ অধিদপ্তরের ইঞ্জিনিয়ার এন্ড শিপ সার্ভেয়ার এস এম নাজমুল হক।  
 
মন্ত্রী ৪ জুলাই দেশে ফিরবেন বলে আশা করা যাচ্ছে।

Inter-Parliamentary Union (আইপিইউ) এর সেক্রেটারি জেনারেল মার্টিন চুংহং (Martin Chunghong) আজ  ধানমন্ডির ৩২ নং এ জাতির জনক বঙ্গবন্ধু শেখ মুজিবুর রহমান স্মৃতি জাদুঘর পরিদর্শনে এলে জাদুঘরের কিউরেটর নির্মল দাশগুপ্ত এবং কর্মকর্তারা তাঁকে স্বাগত জানান। তিনি জাদুঘরের সামনে বঙ্গবন্ধুর প্রতিকৃতিতে পুষ্পস্তবক অর্পণ করেন। এরপর  তিনি স্মৃতি জাদুঘরের বিভিন্ন বিভাগ ঘুরে দেখেন। এসময় তাকে বঙ্গবন্ধুর সংগ্রামী জীবনের বিভিন্ন দিক সম্পর্কে অবহিত করা হয়। এসময় সংসদ সদস্য মোঃ হাবিবে মিল্লাত উপস্থিত ছিলেন।

 

আইপিইউ সেক্রেটারি জেনারেল পররাষ্ট্রমন্ত্রী আবুল হাসান মাহমুদ আলীর সঙ্গে তার সংসদ ভবনস্থ অফিসকক্ষে সাক্ষাৎ করেন।

 

এর আগে আইপিইউ সেক্রেটারি জেনারেল আজ সংসদভবনে পৌঁছলে জাতীয় সংসদের সিনিয়র সচিব মোঃ আশরাফুল মকবুল এবং অন্যান্য ঊর্ধ্বতন কর্মকর্তা তাঁকে স্বাগত জানান। তিনি সংসদভবন পরিদর্শন করেন এবং সংসদের চলমান অধিবেশন অবলোকন করেন।

 

Inter-Parliamentary Union (আইপিইউ) এর সেক্রেটারি জেনারেল মার্টিন চুংহং  ২৬ থেকে ২৯ জুন পর্যন্ত চারদিনের সফরে গতকাল ঢাকায় পৌঁছেছেন।

সিঙ্গাপুরে ওবায়দুল কাদের
দেশের অবকাঠামোখাতে বিনিয়োগের জন্য প্রবাসীদের প্রতি আহ্বান

সিঙ্গাপুর, ২৭ জুন :
    বিভিন্ন পেশায় নিয়োজিত প্রবাসী বাংলাদেশিদের দেশের অবকাঠামোখাতে বিনিয়োগের আহ্বান জানিয়েছেন সড়ক পরিবহণ ও সেতুমন্ত্রী ওবায়দুল কাদের। মন্ত্রী বলেন, বাংলাদেশে এখন বিনিয়োগের অনুকূল পরিবেশ বিরাজ করছে। সরকারের প্রদত্ত সুবিধাদি গ্রহণ করে দেশে বিনিয়োগ করলে স্বল্প সময়ে রিটার্ন পাওয়া সম্ভব বলে তিনি মন্তব্য করেন।

    মন্ত্রী আজ সিঙ্গাপুরস্থ বাংলাদেশ হাইকমিশন মিলনায়তনে বাংলাদেশি ব্যবসায়ীদের সাথে এক মতবিনিময়সভায় মিলিত হন। সিঙ্গাপুরে নিযুক্ত বাংলাদেশের হাইকমিশনার মাহবুব-উজ-জামান এসময় উপস্থিত ছিলেন।

    মন্ত্রী বলেন, বাংলাদেশে এখন বিনিয়োগবান্ধব পরিবেশ রয়েছে। তিনি সরকারের অর্জনসমূহ তুলে ধরে বলেন, সেদিন আর বেশি দূরে নয় যেদিন বাংলাদেশ বিশ্বের বিস্ময় হবে।

    মতবিনিময়সভায় সিঙ্গাপুরস্থ বাংলাদেশ বিজনেস চেম্বার নেতা নাসিরুল ইসলাম মনি, সিঙ্গাপুর-বাংলাদেশ সোসাইটির সহসভাপতি প্রকৌশলী মোঃ নুরুল করিম ও প্রকৌশলী এম হাফিজুর রহমানসহ পেশাজীবী নেতৃবৃন্দ উপস্থিত ছিলেন।

    এছাড়া বাংলাদেশ হাইকমিশনের কাউন্সিলর সামিয়া হালিম ও শ্রম উইংয়ের কাউন্সিলর আয়েশা সিদ্দিকা শেলীসহ হাইকমিশনের কর্মকর্তাগণ উপস্থিত ছিলেন।

    উল্লেখ্য, সিঙ্গাপুরস্থ মেট্রোরেল এবং এলিভেটেড এক্সপ্রেসওয়ে পরিদর্শনের মধ্যদিয়ে অভিজ্ঞতা সঞ্চয়ে সড়ক পরিবহণ ও সেতুমন্ত্রী বর্তমানে সিঙ্গাপুরে অবস্থান করছেন।

    আগামী ৩০ জুন বেইজিংয়ে চট্টগ্রামের কর্ণফুলী নদীর তলদেশ দিয়ে নির্মিতব্য টানেলের চুক্তি স্বাক্ষরের লক্ষ্যে মন্ত্রী চীনের উদ্দেশ্যে গতকাল ঢাকা ত্যাগ করেন।
