Bangladesh Foreign Minister talks to the Malaysian Foreign Minister

 

Dhaka, 27 January :

            Foreign Minister Dr. A K Abdul Momen made a telephone call to the Malaysian Foreign Minister Sri Saifuddin Abdullah today and exchanged views on issues of mutual interests. 

            Dr. Momen congratulated his Malaysian counterpart on the auspicious occasion of the golden jubilee of diplomatic ties between Bangladesh and Malaysia this year and expressed satisfaction at the current level of bilateral cooperation between the two countries. 

            Both the Foreign Ministers agreed to celebrate the historic occasion in a befitting manner. Lauding the Bangladesh-Malaysia bilateral relations, Saifuddin Abdullah stressed on elevating the relationship to a ‘strategic level’ Praising the signing of the MoU on recruitment of Bangladeshi workers in Malaysia, Dr. Momen appreciated Malaysian Government’s decision on opening up the recruitment opportunities for Bangladeshi workers in all sectors of the economy. He expressed Bangladesh Government’s readiness to contribute to the economic growth and activities in Malaysia by sending more workforces through safe and regular migration channel. In this connection, he requested the Malaysian Foreign Minister to consider recruiting IT-trained manpower from Bangladesh.

            Saifuddin Abdullah stressed on expanding cooperation in the arena of digital economy by forging closer cooperation between the ICT authorities of the two countries. 

            Appreciating the supportive role of Malaysia in all fora vis-à-vis the Rohingya crisis, Dr. Momen requested his Malaysian counterpart’s continued support for starting the repatriation of the Rohingyas from Bangladesh to their motherland Myanmar on an expeditious basis. 

            Dr. Momen also thanked the Malaysian government for their donation of more than half-a-million of COVID-19 vaccines. 

            Admiring highly the role of Bangladesh in sheltering the displaced Rohingyas, Saifuddin said that the whole world was grateful to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina for her enormous humanitarian gesture in hosting more than 1.1 million displaced people from Myanmar. 

            Both the Foreign Ministers stressed the importance of accelerating the process for an early conclusion of the proposed Free Trade Agreement for facilitating more trade and commerce between the two countries.       

            Dr. Momen sought Malaysian support in favour of Bangladeshi candidacy at various international and global fora. He also requested Malaysian support for Bangladesh’s candidacy for the ASEAN Sectoral Dialogue Partnership. 

            The two Foreign Ministers also agreed to work for exchanging more high level visits for infusing the bilateral relations with further dynamism and newer directions. As Dr. Momen invited Saifuddin for a visit to Bangladesh on the occasions of the golden jubilee of the diplomatic ties, the latter agreed to visit Bangladesh at a time of mutual convenience. 

            The two Foreign Ministers also exchanged New Year greetings during the call.

The first meeting of the newly formed technical level Ad-Hoc

Task Force held between Bangladesh and Myanmar

 

Dhaka, 27 January :

            The first ever meeting of the newly formed technical level Ad-Hoc Task Force for Verification of the Displaced Persons from Rakhine was held today virtually between Bangladesh and Myanmar. 

            Mr. Shah Rizwan Hayat, Refugee Relief and Repatriation Commissioner (RRRC), Ministry of Disaster Management and Relief of Bangladesh and Mr. Ye Tun Oo, Deputy Director General of the Ministry of Immigration and Population of Myanmar led their respective sides. 

            In this technical level discussion, both sides expressed readiness to continue working closely to address the reasons causing delay in the verification of the past residency of the displaced people in Rakhine. RRRC Shah Rizwan Hayat highlighted Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s humanitarian gesture to give temporary shelters to the huge displaced persons from Rakhine despite numerous constraints and challenges of Bangladesh. He expressed dismay over the slow pace of verification of past residency by Myanmar and offered all cooperation under the three bilateral instruments, to expeditiously complete the verification process. He added that solving difficulties and gaps in pending verification will pave the way for the early commencement of the sustainable repatriation of the displaced people of Rakhine which also demands creation of conducive environment in Rakhine and confidence building among them. Detailing the technical difficulties and information gaps, the Myanmar delegation assured their cooperation to complete pending verification. He expressed optimism that the Task Force would be instrumental to complete the verification process.

প্রাক-নিবন্ধিত হজযাত্রীদের জন্য অনলাইন রিফান্ড সিস্টেম উদ্বোধন করলেন ধর্ম প্রতিমন্ত্রী

ধর্ম প্রতিমন্ত্রী মোঃ ফরিদুল হক খান আজ ধর্ম বিষয়ক মন্ত্রণালয় আয়োজিত ভার্চুয়াল সভায় সরকারি ব্যবস্থাপনাধীন প্রাক-নিবন্ধিত হজযাত্রীদের জন্য অনলাইন রিফান্ড সিস্টেম উদ্বোধন করেছেন।

 

প্রতিমন্ত্রী এসময় বলেন, প্রধানমন্ত্রী শেখ হাসিনার নির্দেশনায় প্রবর্তিত ই-হজ ব্যবস্থাপনার অধীনে সরকারি ব্যবস্থাপনায় হজ গমনেচ্ছু কোন ব্যক্তি দেশের যে কোন প্রান্ত হতে প্রাক-নিবন্ধন করতে পারছেন। 

 

ফরিদুল হক খান জানান, কেউ তার প্রাক- নিবন্ধন বাতিল করলে বা মৃত্যুবরণ করলে বিদ্যমান পদ্ধতিতে তার জমাকৃত অর্থ ফেরত প্রদান প্রক্রিয়ায় বাতিলকারী উক্ত ব্যক্তিকে ন্যূনতম একমাস পরে অর্থ ফেরত প্রদান সম্ভব হয়। আবার উক্ত ব্যক্তিকে একবার সংশ্লিষ্ট ব্যাংকে এবং মন্ত্রণালয় হতে ইস্যুকৃত চেক গ্রহণের নিমিত্ত হজ অফিস, ঢাকায় সশরীরে আসতে হয়, যা দেশের দূরবর্তী একজন ব্যক্তির জন্য কষ্টকর ও সময়সাপেক্ষ।

 

প্রতিমন্ত্রী বলেন, বাস্তবতার প্রেক্ষিতে উক্ত অর্থ ফেরত প্রদান প্রক্রিয়াটি অনলাইন পদ্ধতিতে স্বল্পসময়ে সরাসরি প্রাক-নিবন্ধন বাতিলকারী ব্যক্তির প্রদত্ত তথ্যমতে তার ব্যাংক হিসেবে মন্ত্রণালয় হতে ফেরত প্রদান সম্ভব হবে। তিনি আরো বলেন, নতুনভাবে চালুকৃত এই সিস্টেমের ফলে উক্ত ব্যক্তিকে কোথাও যাওয়ার প্রয়োজন হবে না।

 

ধর্ম বিষয়ক মন্ত্রণালয়ের সচিব কাজী এনামুল হাসানের সভাপতিত্বে অনুষ্ঠিত সভায় ধর্ম বিষয়ক মন্ত্রণালয়ের কর্মকর্তাবৃন্দ এবং হজ ব্যবস্থাপনার সহিত সংশ্লিষ্ট ব্যক্তিগণ সংযুক্ত ছিলেন।

Bangladesh is striving hard to ensure low carbon climate resilient sustainable development

Dhaka, 27 January :

            Deputy Minister for Environment, Forest and Climate Change Habibun Nahar said under the able leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, the Government of Bangladesh is earnestly striving hard to ensure low carbon climate resilient sustainable development in the country. We are committed to reduce greenhouse gas emission as part of global efforts.  However, Bangladesh being the 7th among the most climate-vulnerable countries in the world, adaptation is our main focus.

            Deputy Minister for Environment said this while speaking from his residence in the Virtual Ministerial Meeting of the Major Economies Forum on Energy and Climate (MEF) hosted by United States Special Presidential Envoy for Climate John Kerry today.

           
            Habibun Nahar said Bangladesh has increased quantified emission reduction targets to 21.85 percent below business-as-usual level by 2030 in updated NDC submitted to the UNFCCC on 26 August last year.  We have included Agriculture and Waste Sector along with energy and Industry sector to enhance the coverage of emission reduction, particularly reduction of methane emission from agriculture and waste sector. We are already working to reduce emission from rice fields by scaling up use of alternate wetting and drying method in fifty thousand hectares of rice fields. We are also working to reduce methane emissions from improved feed of livestock and improved manure management. In waste sector, we are establishing a waste to energy plant in one, out of two Landfill sites in Capital Dhaka City.

            Deputy Minster said following the call of the COP26, we have already started to consider revisiting our NDC in 2022. We have already cancelled 10 coal-based power plants worth 12 billion dollars of foreign investment. We have recently drafted National Solar Energy Roadmap and aim to have 40% of our energy from renewable sources by 2041.

            Deputy Minster said Bangladesh have recently drafted the Mujib Climate Prosperity Plan 2030, under which we are planning to implement 4 Giga watt of wind energy project in our offshore areas. In case of zero emission vehicles, government has already given incentives to promote Hybrid vehicles, while we are working on the electric vehicle policy to promote zero emission vehicles in the long run. In forestry sector, we are implementing projects and programmmes to increase tree cover to 24 percent by 2024. We are also working to implement afforestation and reforestation in one hundred fifty thousand hectares and Restoration of three hundred thirty-seven thousand eight hundred hectares of deforested and degraded forests.

            Habibun Nahar said to drive a wider structural shift and foster sustainable energy transition in particularly vulnerable developing countries like Bangladesh, public funds have to be prioritized rather than loans from the multilateral development fund and private fund. The benefit of green advance technologies needs to be shared with the most vulnerable developing countries. The development needs of the CVF nations must be prioritized and the transfer of clean, green and advanced technologies should be ensured to the CVF countries at affordable cost.

মৎস্য ও প্রাণিসম্পদ মন্ত্রী শ ম রেজাউল করিম বলেছেন, আওয়ামী লীগ ও সরকারের বিরোধিতা করতে গিয়ে বিএনপি এখন রাষ্ট্রের বিরোধিতা শুরু করেছে। তারা বিশ্বে ৮টি ফার্ম নিয়োগ করে রাষ্ট্রের বিরুদ্ধে কাজ করার জন্য টাকা বিনিয়োগ করেছে। এটা তাদের রাজনৈতিক দেউলিয়াত্ব প্রমাণ করছে। তারা সবকিছুর ভেতরে নেতিবাচক কিছু খুঁজে পাচ্ছে। তারা প্রথম বলেছে নির্বাচন কমিশন গঠনে আইন করতে হবে। এখন যখন আইন পাস করা হয়েছে, তখন তারা বলছে এতো তড়িঘড়ি করা ঠিক না। যাকে দেখতে নারি তার চলন বাঁকা, বিএনপি'র অবস্থা এখন সেরকম হয়েছে। ভালো কাজকে ভালো বলার মানসিক অবস্থা এখন তাদের নেই। এর দ্বারা মানুষের কাছে বিএনপি অস্তিত্বহীনতার জায়গায় পৌঁছে যাচ্ছে।

আজ সাভারে বাংলাদেশ প্রাণিসম্পদ গবেষণা ইনস্টিটিউট (বিএলআরআই) এর কনফারেন্স হলে ইনস্টিটিউটের দুই দিনব্যাপী বার্ষিক গবেষণা পর্যালোচনা কর্মশালার উদ্বোধন অনুষ্ঠানে প্রধান অতিথির বক্তব্য শেষে সমসাময়িক বিষয়ে সাংবাদিকদের এক প্রশ্নের উত্তরে মন্ত্রী এসব কথা বলেন।

মন্ত্রী বলেন, করোনা সংকটের মধ্যেও দেশের অর্থনীতির চাকা, গবেষণা কার্যক্রম ও প্রশাসনিক কর্মকাণ্ড অবশ্যই অব্যাহত রাখতে হবে। স্বাস্থ্যবিধি অনুসরণ করে কাজ চালিয়ে যেতে হবে। কারণ দেশের ১৭ কোটি মানুষকে বাঁচিয়ে রাখতে হবে, উন্নয়ন অগ্রযাত্রা অব্যাহত রাখতে হবে। দেশে নতুন নতুন গবেষণার সৃষ্টি সকলের কাছে পৌঁছে দিতে হবে।

এ সময় বিএলআরআই এর গবেষকদের উদ্দেশে মন্ত্রী বলেন, গবেষণাক্ষেত্রে সবটুকু মেধা ও যোগ্যতার বিকাশ ঘটাতে হবে। নিজের মেধা দিয়ে অর্পিত দায়িত্ব পালন করতে হবে। দেশের জন্য বিজ্ঞানী ও গবেষকদের কাজ করতে হবে।

মন্ত্রী আরো বলেন, প্রাণিসম্পদ খাতের উন্নয়ন এখন বিশ্বের বিস্ময়। মাছ, মাংস, দুধ, ডিম উৎপাদনে বর্তমানে অভাবনীয় সাফল্য এসেছে। এ সাফল্যের সূচনা করেছিলেন বঙ্গবন্ধু। বঙ্গবন্ধু বলেছিলেন খাবারের অন্যতম উপাদান মাছ, মাংস, দুধ, ডিম। মানুষের আমিষের চাহিদা পূরণের অন্যতম খাত প্রাণিসম্পদ খাত। এ খাতকে বিকশিত করার প্রতিষ্ঠান হচ্ছে বিএলআরআই।

বিএলআরআই এর মহাপরিচালক ড. এস এম জাহাঙ্গীর হোসেনের সভাপতিত্বে কর্মশালায় বিশেষ অতিথি হিসেবে উপস্থিত ছিলেন মৎস্য ও প্রাণিসম্পদ মন্ত্রণালয়ের সচিব ড. মুহাম্মদ ইয়ামিন চৌধুরী, সম্মানীয় অতিথি হিসেবে উপস্থিত ছিলেন মৎস্য ও প্রাণিসম্পদ মন্ত্রণালয়ের অতিরিক্ত সচিব এস এম ফেরদৌস আলম ও প্রাণিসম্পদ অধিদপ্তরের মহাপরিচালক ডা. মনজুর মোহাম্মদ শাহজাদা।

পরে মন্ত্রী ৩৪টি গবেষণা প্রবন্ধের পোস্টার উপস্থাপনা প্রত্যক্ষ করেন এবং বিভিন্ন দিকনির্দেশনা প্রদান করেন। দুই দিনব্যাপী এ কর্মশালায় মোট ৬২টি গবেষণা প্রবন্ধ উপস্থাপন করা হবে।

চলচ্চিত্র শিল্পী কল্যাণ ট্রাস্টের ট্রাস্টি বোর্ডের চেয়ারম্যান এবং তথ্য ও সম্প্রচার মন্ত্রী ড. হাছান মাহ্‌মুদের সভাপতিত্বে আজ সচিবালয়ে মন্ত্রণালয়ের সভাকক্ষে ট্রাস্টের প্রথম বৈঠক অনুষ্ঠিত হয়েছে। তথ্য ও সম্প্রচার সচিব মোঃ মকবুল হোসেনের পরিচালনায় এ বৈঠকে ট্রাস্টের ভবিষ্যৎ কার্যক্রম নিয়ে বিশদ আলোচনা হয়। সভায় ট্রাস্টের তহবিল গঠনে ‘সিড মানি’ সংগ্রহ ও কার্যক্রম পরিচালনার জন্য প্রেষণে কর্মকর্তা-কর্মচারী নিয়োগের বিষয়ও আলোচনায় স্থান পায়।

বঙ্গবন্ধু নারীর ক্ষমতায়নের প্রকৃত পথপ্রদর্শক

মহিলা ও শিশু বিষয়ক প্রতিমন্ত্রী ফজিলাতুন নেসা ইন্দিরা বলেছেন, জাতির পিতা বঙ্গবন্ধু শেখ মুজিবুর রহমান বাংলাদেশে নারী উন্নয়ন ও নারীর ক্ষমতায়নের প্রকৃত পথপ্রদর্শক। তিনি সদ্যস্বাধীন দেশে নারীর কর্মসংস্থান সৃষ্টি ও অর্থনৈতিক উন্নয়নের জন্য ১৯৭২ সালে নারী পুনর্বাসন বোর্ড গঠন করেন। মুক্তিযুদ্ধের সময় নির্যাতিত নারীদের চিকিৎসা ও পুনর্বাসন করেন। সেখানে বঙ্গমাতার ছিল অসাধারণ ভূমিকা। বঙ্গমাতা নির্যাতিত নারীদের বিয়ের ব্যবস্থা করে, তাদের সামাজিকভাবে প্রতিষ্ঠার মাধ্যমে মর্যাদাসম্পন্ন আলোকিত জীবন দান করেন।

প্রতিমন্ত্রী আজ ঢাকায় ইস্কাটনে মহিলা বিষয়ক অধিদপ্তরের প্রধান কার্যালয়ে জাতির পিতা বঙ্গবন্ধু শেখ মুজিবুর রহমান ও বঙ্গমাতা বেগম ফজিলাতুন্নেসা মুজিবের ম্যুরাল এবং ৭ মার্চের ঐতিহাসিক ভাষণের টেরাকোটা উদ্বোধনকালে প্রধান অতিথির বক্তব্যে এসব কথা বলেন।

প্রতিমন্ত্রী বলেন, জাতির পিতা ১৯৭২ সালে যে নারী পুনর্বাসন বোর্ড গঠন করেন, সেই নারী পুনর্বাসন বোর্ডই আজকের মহিলা বিষয়ক অধিদপ্তর। এই অধিদপ্তর দেশের সকল উপজেলায় নিজস্ব অফিসের মাধ্যমে নারীদের প্রশিক্ষণ, সামাজিক নিরাপত্তা, সচেতন করা ও সুরক্ষা সেবা প্রদান করছে। এর ফলে নারীরা অর্থনৈতিক, সামাজিক, পারিবারিক ও রাজনৈতিক ক্ষেত্রে ক্ষমতায়িত হচ্ছে।

প্রতিমন্ত্রী আরো বলেন, আজ মহিলা বিষয়ক অধিদপ্তরে জাতির পিতা বঙ্গবন্ধু শেখ মুজিবুর রহমান ও বঙ্গমাতা বেগম ফজিলাতুন্নেসা মুজিবের ম্যুরাল এবং ৭ মার্চের ঐতিহাসিক ভাষণের টেরকোটার উদ্বোধন করছি। এ অধিদপ্তরে প্রতিদিন অনেক সেবা প্রার্থী আসে। এ প্রজন্মের নারীরা স্বাধীনতার সুবর্ণজয়ন্তী ও  মুজিববর্ষে স্থাপিত জাতির পিতা এবং বঙ্গমাতার ম্যুরালের মাধ্যমে, বাংলাদেশে নারীর উন্নয়ন ও ক্ষমতায়নে জাতির পিতা এবং বঙ্গমাতার যে মহান অবদান, তা জানতে পারবে। এর মাধ্যমে নারীরা আত্মপ্রত্যয়ী হয়ে শিক্ষা, চাকরি, রাজনীতি, ব্যবসা বাণিজ্যসহ উন্নয়নের সকল ক্ষেত্রে সক্রিয় অংশগ্রহণের মাধ্যমে প্রধানমন্ত্রী শেখ হাসিনা ঘোষিত ২০৪১ সালের উন্নত সমৃদ্ধ বাংলাদেশ গঠনে ভূমিকা রাখবে।

মহিলা বিষয়ক অধিদপ্তরের মহাপরিচালক ফরিদা পারভীনের সভাপতিত্বে এ উদ্বোধন অনুষ্ঠানে বিশেষ অতিথি হিসেবে উপস্থিত ছিলেন মহিলা ও শিশু বিষয়ক সচিব ড. মুঃ আনোয়ার হোসেন হাওলাদার। এসময় আরো উপস্থিত ছিলেন বাংলাদেশ শিশু একাডেমির চেয়ারম্যান লাকী ইনাম, অতিরিক্ত সচিব ড. মহিউদ্দীন আহমেদ সহ মন্ত্রণালয় এবং দপ্তরসংস্থার বিভিন্ন পর্যায়ের কর্মকর্তাবৃন্দ।

কোভিড-১৯ সংক্রান্ত সর্বশেষ প্রতিবেদন

            স্বাস্থ্য অধিদপ্তর এবং রোগতত্ত্ব, রোগ নিয়ন্ত্রণ ও গবেষণা প্রতিষ্ঠান (আইইডিসিআর)-এর তথ্যানুযায়ী গতকাল বুধবার সকাল ৮টা থেকে বৃহস্পতিবার সকাল ৮টা পর্যন্ত ২৪ ঘণ্টায় দেশে ১৫ হাজার ৮০৭ জনের শরীরে করোনা সংক্রমণ পাওয়া গেছে। নমুনা পরীক্ষার বিপরীতে রোগী শনাক্তের হার ৩১ দশমিক ৯৮ শতাংশ। এ সময় ৪৯ হাজার ৪২৫ জনের নমুনা পরীক্ষা করা হয়েছে।

 

গত ২৪ ঘণ্টায় মারা গেছেন ১৫ জন। এ পর্যন্ত ২৮ হাজার ২৮৮ জন করোনায় মৃত্যুবরণ করেছেন। করোনাভাইরাস আক্রান্তদের মধ্যে এখন পর্যন্ত সুস্থ হয়েছেন ১৫ লাখ ৬১ হাজার ৪৩ জন।

UzbekÕs Central Bank Chairman has

expressed to provide all out support in banking sector of BD

 

Tashkent, 27 January :

Ambassador Md. Zahangir Alam had a meeting with Chairman of the Board of the Central Bank of the Republic of Uzbekistan - Mr. Mamarizo Berdimuratovich Nurmuratov at Central Bank of Uzbekistan in Tashkent yesterday.

 

During the meeting, both sides discussed the prospects for cooperation in the banking sector of the two countries for the further development of trade and economic relations between Uzbekistan and Bangladesh. Ambassador and Chairman agreed to consider signing of MOU between Central Banks of Bangladesh and Uzbekistan and proceed the matter of concluding Relationship Management Agreement (RMA) between banks of both the countries to remove barriers of LC at present businessmen of both countries are facing in their trading.

 

Chairman of the Central Bank expressed appreciation for taking initiative to develop relations in banking sector and assured Ambassador to provide all out support in banking for the development of bilateral relations between Bangladesh and Uzbekistan in the near future.
