Seminar in the Hague

Utilizing Untapped Potential of Bangladesh Discussed

The Hague, April 14 :

The Embassy of Bangladesh in the Netherlands hosted a business seminar at the Embassy premises in the Hague yesterday to promote business and investment between the two countries.

About 30 Dutch entrepreneurs of Bangladeshi origin while taking part in the seminar expressed the opinion that this is the right time to utilize the untapped potential of Bangladesh.

They said, Bangladesh’s untapped potential could be a big opportunity for Dutch national/residents of Bangladesh origin to unleash their knowledge and talents to build bridges of business and investments between the two countries.

Bangladesh Ambassador Sheikh Mohammed Belal in his address highlighted the prevailing opportunities and incentives for expatriates if they wish either to expand or begin new businesses in Bangladesh. Ambassador Belal highlighted Bangladesh’s geo-strategic location in between India and China with ASEAN common market next door. He encouraged them to make smart investments in Bangladesh keeping an eye on its location in the centre of an emerging Asia.

The Dutch Experts from Netherlands Enterprise Agency and Netherlands Chamber of Commerce, Annette Weijman and Marco van Hagen made presentations highlighting different provisions and funds available to the Dutch businessmen if they wish to expand their business in Bangladesh.

The Speakers said, the Dutch Residents of Bangladesh origin could work as a readily available conduit for more joint ventures between the Netherlands and Bangladesh.

Innovative initiatives like ICT and logistic outsourcing, ETP sourcing from the Netherlands, employing chefs from Bangladesh, bike manufacturing etc. were discussed at the seminar as future opportunities. 

At the seminar, Dutch NRBs reiterated their resolve to work for promoting business relations between the two countries and upholding the image of brand Bangladesh.

          কলকাতাস্থ বাংলাদেশ উপহাইকমিশন আজ অত্যন্ত সমারোহে বাংলা নববর্ষ-১৪২২ উদ্যাপন করে।

          বাংলাদেশ উপহাইকমিশন প্রাঙ্গণে বিকেলে বাংলা নববর্ষ-১৪২২ উদ্বোধন করেন বাংলাদেশের ভূমিমন্ত্রী সামছুর রহমান শরীফ।

          অনুষ্ঠানে উপহাইকমিশনার জকি আহাদ উপস্থিত ছিলেন।

          এ উপলক্ষে আয়োজিত সাংস্কৃতিক অনুষ্ঠানে বাংলাদেশ থেকে আগত বিশিষ্ট শিল্পী ইন্দ্রমোহন রাজবংসী ও শাম্মী আখতার সংগীত পরিবেশন করেন।

          বাংলা নববর্ষ উপলক্ষে উপহাইকমিশন প্রাঙ্গণে মেলার আয়োজন করা হয়।

          মেলায় নাগরদোলা, বায়োস্কোপ, পুতুল নাচ ছাড়াও পিঠাসহ ঐতিহ্যবাহী বিভিন্ন ধরনের খাদ্যসামগ্রী উপস্থাপন করা হয়।

স্পিকারের সাথে বিশ্বব্যাংক ভাইস প্রেসিডেন্টের সাক্ষাৎ

    বিশ্বব্যাংক এর দক্ষিণ এশিয়া অঞ্চলের ভাইস প্রেসিডেন্ট এনেটি ডিকসন গতকাল বাংলাদেশ জাতীয় সংসদের স্পিকার এবং সিপিএ নির্বাহী কমিটির চেয়ারপার্সন ড. শিরীন শারমিন চৌধুরীর সাথে ওয়াশিংটনস্থ বিশ্বব্যাংকের সদরদফতরে সাক্ষাৎ করেন।
    সাক্ষাৎকালে তাঁরা পারস্পরিক স্বার্থসংশ্লিষ্ট বিষয়ে আলোচনা করেন।
    এসময় স্পিকার বলেন, সহ¯্রাব্দের উন্নয়নের লক্ষ্যমাত্রা অর্জনে বাংলাদেশ বিভিন্ন সূচকে অনেক এগিয়েছে। এমডিজি এর পরে সাসটেইনেবল ডেভেলপমেন্ট গোলস অর্জনে তিনি বিশ্বব্যাংক আইএমএফসহ সকলকে একযোগে কাজ করার আহ্বান জানান। তিনি বলেন, উন্নয়নকে টেকসই রূপদানে নারীর ক্ষমতায়ন ও জেন্ডার সমতাকে প্রাধান্য দিতে হবে।
    এনেটি ডিকসন বলেন, উন্নয়নমূলক সহযোগিতার বিভিন্ন ক্ষেত্রে বিশ্বব্যাংক কাজ করে যাচ্ছে। এসময় তারা বাজেট বাস্তবায়ন, জেন্ডার সংবেদনশীল বাজেট তৈরি, নারী নেতৃত্বকে এগিয়ে নেয়াসহ টেকসই উন্নয়নের বিভিন্ন বিষয় আলোচনা করেন। এছাড়াও সরকারি হিসাব কমিটিসহ জাতীয় সংসদের বিভিন্ন মন্ত্রণালয় সম্পর্কিত স্থায়ী কমিটির মাধ্যমে সরকারি কর্মকান্ডের স্বচ্ছতা ও জবাবদিহিতা বিষয়ে আলোচনা হয়। জাতীয় সংসদে বিশ্বব্যাংকের আর্থিক সহায়তায় বাস্তবায়নাধীন এসপিও প্রকল্পের বিভিন্ন কর্মকান্ডের অগ্রগতি নিয়ে বিস্তারিত আলোচনা হয়।
    এসময় স্পিকার বলেন, স্থায়ী কমিটি স্বচ্ছতা ও জবাবদিহিতা নিশ্চিত করতে কাজ করে যাচ্ছে। প্রত্যেকটি কমিটিতে বিরোধী দলীয় সংসদ সদস্যরা ভূমিকা রাখছেন এবং সংসদীয় জবাবদিহিতা প্রতিষ্ঠায় নিজেদের ভূমিকাকে আরো জোরদার করছেন।
    সাক্ষাৎকালে ওয়াশিংটনে নিযুক্ত বাংলাদেশের রাষ্ট্রদূত এম জিয়াউদ্দিন উপস্থিত ছিলেন।
