The Budget Session of Jatiya Sangsad begins at 3pm today after a four day recess on the ocassion of Eid-ul-Fitr.

Road, Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader yesterday inspected road repairing works in Poduar Bazar area in Cumilla yesterday. The Minister during the visit instructed officials concerned to take necessary steps to ensure safe return of the people after Eid celebration.

BGMEA has claimed that all readymade garments workers got salary and festival bonus ahead of holy Eid-ul-Fitr. BGEMA President Siddiqur Rahman at a press conference at his office in Dhaka on Thursday said, 100 percent readymade garments workers got salary of last month and festival bonus ahead of Eid.

United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres and the World Bank Group President Jim Yong Kim are likely to make a two-day official visit to Rohingya refugee camps in Cox’s Bazar district of Bangladesh on July 1. Apart from visiting the refugee camps, they will hold meetings with Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and Finance Minister A M A Muhith, ERD sources said. The World Bank may provide Bangladesh with a grant worth around $200 million to help tackle the ongoing Rohingya crisis.

UNICEF has estimated that more than 100,000 people including approximately 55,000 children, mostly Rohingyas, are at risk due to floods and landslides in Cox’s Bazar district which is one of the most flood prone areas of Bangladesh. UNICEF said, they need US$10 million to fund their monsoon response. So far, they have raised US$5.9 million, reports UNB.

Many areas of Moulvibazar district headquarters and nearby villages went under water on Sunday following a breach in the town protection dam along the Manu river. At least four persons reportedly died as they were washed away by the flood water in the district in the past four days. The sudden push of water engulfed many areas of the town and at least 50 nearby villages.

Climate financing by the world’s six largest multilateral development banks rose to a seven-year high of $35.2 billion in 2017, up 28 percent from the previous year. A joint report on climate financing said $27.9 billion, or 79 percent of the 2017 total, was devoted to climate mitigation projects that aim to reduce harmful emissions and slow down global warming, said a ADB media release received in Dhaka.

The Awami League and BNP-backed mayoral aspirants begin their official campaign from today for the upcoming Gazipur City Corporation polls scheduled to be held on June 26.
